Default need my ladies with long memories

Found at Goodwill for a whole 99 cents - a linen stamped vanity runner -
I'd have bought it just for the fabric but the pattern is very clear and
really pretty. I might just toss some colors and actually stitch it

NOW
does Evonder Art ring any bells

I can try and take pictures to post on RTCNP if that helps. I'll put it
on my FB wall too.

There were many companies who produced stamped pillowcases, tray
cloths, table cloths etc. Or, you could buy your own transfers and
apply them.

My grandmother always embroidered her towels, pillowcases etc. I
suppose when all sheets were white, it was a way to brighten things
up. There were no modern wipe clean surfaces, so even things like
dressing/night tables needed a little runner/embroidered coaster so
that one did not have to continually polish the surface.

I still do that so that I can use them decoratively, else who would
see them ? I have even explained this to my kids and told them who
did the embroidery in the hopes they will similarly treasure things my
grandmother made. If they don't, well maybe somebody like you will
pick them up in a charity shop or yard sale.

I'm hoping so too! It makes me so sad to see unloved stitched items at
thrift stores. I buy table/vanity pieces sometimes too. I can't resist
the fabric.

The mystery name appears to be solved (via posting of pictures on facebook)

The name stamped/printed on the fabric is Wonder Art, and is a brand
currently owned by Caron International - but according to their web site
all it is now is Latch Hook rug kits

Browsing through eBay, however, brings up lots of stamped embroidery
sets (some stamped, some crewel, some regular - pillow cases, table
runners, quilt squares, dish towels, etc), most from the
1970's-1980's... however, there were a few from as far back as the 1950's!

Looks like Cheryl contacted Caron to see if they might still have some
of the old papers in a warehouse somewhere (you never know!!!) to see if
she could get the directions.

My suggestion is to stitch it with DMC Perle (or floss) in a crewel
fashion and have fun with it!

I just might try and learn cutwork and do it as intended - with modern
colors!

It has some an Art Deco feel to it!

I'd have posted pictures by now to RCTNP but I can't figure out how to
get the pictures from my phone to the computer since all the cables are MIA

I take the card out and use a card adapter to stick it in a usb port.

FYI - with K taking off for school, everything is in disarray!
Including the photo equipment

Cutwork is very easy, I am sure you could do it, but like hardanger
you really need some great, pointy, very sharp scissors lol

Yep - and this piece is 42" x 15" lots of cutting!

Yes, like the box full of doilies going for 25-50 cents each at our
church rummage sale a couple weeks ago. Sad.

And what have I been up to this summer?

Knitting *doilies*! Or table centers, or whatever else you'd like
to call them.

I've become fascinated by the lace knitting designs of Herbert
Niebling and have translated several (and have gobs more in the
queue) and have knitted them up in various weights of thread.

The big problem I'm having is: What to do with the things after
they're finished?

I enjoy doing the translations, proof reading, knitting, and all
of that part, but I don't know what to do with the finished items.
I've sent several to friends, and have jokingly started an "Adopt
a Niebling" campaign amongst other friends. lol I've got a nice
sized stack forming on top of my sewing table.

Yep, I'm addicted.

Now I'm reading about doilies going for a quarter apiece. sigh
Not that I'm trying to sell the things, but it's a real shame
handwork items aren't treasured or respected by most people.

Off to start another one anyway....
