Default New Twisties Cane! (filigrana)

I just wanted to show y'all my new cane based on the filigrana or
twistie canes that are used in glass bead work. I placed pictures on
my website for you to view.

On this page here - http://members.aol.com/Laukkonen/filigrana.html

Enjoy!

Those are really awsome. I loved the effect on the bead! What a great idea!

I'd love to see a more broken down step by step explanation for those of use
who don't generally get to do that kind of work. You assumed some basic
knowledge that not all of us have. Are the stripes run vertically along the
sides of a snake and then twisted? If so how did you do the one with the
inner twist?

I would love to do a tute, but I just don't have the time or resources
right now. I am sorry!! They are such fun to make.

No, I was not assuming anything from anyone, from picking up the clay
for the first time or someone who has clayed for 10 years would, or
would not, have the knowledge to make this from those pictures. I was
just sharing what I had managed to create and thought was a neat
effect. I don't know how to explain. But sounds like your strip idea
would be neat!

This was just too much of a challenge to pass up! I played around with the
clay for a little while, achieved a similar effect (if somewhat more
crudely), and thought, "How hard can it be to do a tutorial? I have a
digital camera... ." It took an evening to get all the pics and put the page
together. You all will have to let me know what information I didn't think
to include. I hope you will share your ideas on elaborating on Chryse's
clever technique.

Looks like a great start, Georgia! Thanks for the ideas.

What intrigued me about Chryse's was the transparency of the cane.
I've never been able to get any translucent clay to look that
transparent. What's the secret, Chryse?

Chryse's spirals interwove. She had two different spirals going that
intertwined each other Plus the inner activity which added to the
complexity. I am easily able to make a single twist like the one on the
tutorial, though I couldn't achieve the level of transparency she showed,
but I'm not sure how she got the intertwined spirals.

I am working on getting this submitted to a magazine. I will post
when/if it becomes published.

Nope, that is not what I did. Guess you will have to wait for my
article then, hehehe.

Hey Chryse, aren't you having fun watching us all struggle to figure it out
! You're going to have to put us out of our misery pretty soon.
