Default o/t blatant plug

Hi all,

A week or so ago I posted about ideas for selling to stores. I have
decided to start small and try my luck on Ebay instead.

You can see an example of what i'm selling at :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1

I'd really appreciate any comments or ideas on how I could vary the design,
do the handles better, etc etc.

I'm not asking any of you to buy anything!!

Hullo Morag
I have always thought that the best fabric bags I have seen are those
where the handles are fabric and where they go down one side, under then
up the other side of the bag. They look so sturdy and strong.
Nothing against yours, but I just wonder about durability.
Very pretty though.

How about a thought you didn't ask for? You could probably improve the
appearance of your bag by doing a more interesting composition with your
photography. Think about it this way - a good painting can be made to look
outstanding simply by an appropriate and flattering frame. Or, to put this
on topic, a nice quilt can be dulled into ho-hum with a border that doesn't
do it justice. The background on your ebay photo is not distracting (which
is a good thing) but it doesn't say much. Rootle around on ebay and you'll
see what I mean. I hope. Good luck with your venture. Polly

The bag is very pretty but I agree that the picture doesn't do it justice.
Is there any quilting on the squares? A close up picture of it may help in
selling.

The bag is an interesting idea. As another way to make some money you might
take it to some of the LQS and put on classes in making them. I personally
would take a class like this.

Another thing about presentation: make the back ground and the item a
good contrast! And give the bag (which is very pretty) some scale. If
you look at some of the sample bags I did for one of my courses (in the
teaching section), you can see the bags are stuffed with things that
give a clue to the size - in this case, rotary cutters and dressmaking
scissors poking out of the pocket!

When I was doing the craft fairs, I'd make the bags nice and fat by
stuffing them with carrier bags of spare toy stuffing, and present them
in piles with other stuff poking out the top, as if they were in use.
With the baby bags, I filled the main display bag with piles of baby
gear to show what would fit in. It was masses!

I still have a pile of them - I must look into this eBay selling myself!

Another thought:
you write about a coordinating purse, so I would have assumed
it would be the same fabric or color. Which isn't the case, if the
color of the photos is ok.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you

I finally got the chance to look at your bags, so here's my thoughts.

About the handle, the cord seems to be too dainty for the size of the
bag to me. I tend to put heavy items in my shoulder bags so I look
for straps that are wide so they don't dig into me as I carry it
around. Have you thought about a wider fabric handle? How about a
strip of small squares pieced together on the outer side and a solid
colored strip on the inner side for the handle? Or maybe just a
solid colored fabric strap.

A better background for your picture would help your bags look better
than some of the others on ebay. Consider using a piece of dark
fabric draped behind and under light colored bags and a light color
for darker bags. Or simply lay fabric on a flat surface, lay the bag
on it, and take the picture looking down at it. Avoid using black or
white as the background color as they are harsh. A bright white
background washes out the color in a photo anyway. Try navy, brown,
or dark gray for a dark background, and off white and pale blue or
gray instead of white.

Have you thought about listing some of the large bags in needlework
accessories as needlework project totes?

A measurement for the handle in the description would be helpful to
possible bidders.

Consider adding a standard ruler in the picture to show scale.

If you make a large and small bag that match you can list them as a
set or list separately and put a link the other one in the
description. Links to matching items are handy for the potential
buyers as it eliminates the need to look at a list of your other items
just to find the one thing that interests them.
