OT Long knitted headgear
This is the best place to start on a strange search as has been proved over
and over! I am looking for one of those long stocking caps. You know the sort? Like a bobble hat? One of those stripey knitted thing like a sock but the really long ones. And if I were to knit it, it would take forever. A UK supplier would be grand but as long as they take credit cards and post to the UK then I guess whereabouts is immaterial. My daughter has suddenly decided her winter wardrobe needs long stocking caps! What can you do but say "Fine dear! No problem!" So can anyone help me keep the Supermum title? Please? Thanks people. Why not draw your own pattern and make out of fleece fabric and use elastic
banding to hold on your head. I've made a few like this for the granddaugthers. Just a thought. Barb |

They are very easy to knit
start from the middle of the head with 4 sts on dps ,put a mark to know where starting point is .and knit in the round. double stiches every 2nd round , until you have 32 st, , than knit one ,knit 2 stiches in one [i.e.knit another st], till your circumference is wide enough for head , now measure from ear over head to next ear, stop adding stiches and just just knit in ribbing [ i preffer k2 , p2, but you might make k1 p1 , or k3 p3 ] till you have half the above measured [ear-to ear]. now knit only 2/3 of stiches , back and forth, leaving 1/3 unknitted, on a thread or an other needle, knit like this do this about the length of the ear, now cast on same number of unknitted and knit down to ones shoulder , now split the work to front side , under the unknitted part leaving the back stiches on another needle , and knit back and forth , while knitting the 3rd and 4th stich together at the begining of each row , until you have a long enough `tail` that will reach the middle of one`s breast bone. cast off thread , do the same to back stiches , Now collect the 1/3 of the stiches you kept on a separate needle for the eyes hole . cast on stiches , [ 1 every second row ] on the edge of the 2/3 knitted piece , and than cast on stiches on topof the casted on stiches , rib for 2-4 cm , cast off loosely with aneedle at least 2 sizes bigger than the one you worked with . enjoy your warm headgear . mirjam Can`t find a supplier, but here`s a pattern! http://knitting.about.com/library/bllongstockingcap.htm Pat P "Janine" wrote in message om... We called these "tuques" where I grew up. Kids could be persuaded to
wear them as a cap and scarf if necessary. That was Canader, eh?--Irene (Janine) wrote in message om... This is the best place to start on a strange search as has been proved over and over!
