Default Gold solder

Is ist possible to make a 14 kt solder by mixing 24 kt gold with
'gold' alloying material? 50/50 mixture yields a 12 kt alloy that
should melt a a lower temp than 14 kt.

But then you reduce the karat value of your whole piece. You can no
longer declare it 14k.

1) I thought that it was known and understood that a small amount of
gold solder would still make the piece salable as 14 kt.
2) Is there a 14 kt content solder? (In other words, how do you
solder a 14 kt piece and still call it 14 kt.
3) The piece in question is an amateur jeweler's gift to his wife -
thus a little off karet is not that much of a question.

1) Who will define "small amount"? Once you add lower karat gold, you
should stamp it with the lower kt hallmark.
2) 14k solder is sold everywhere in various melting temperatures (easy,
med, hard). You can get it in sheet, wire or paste form.
3) This changes the picture. A piece made for personal use may contain
any metal you wish. You are fine as long as you don't sell it as 14 kt
gold.
