I saw couple Britney whatever's Ads, and I guess got the wrong idea. Best regards Vincenzo Taormina Vincenzo, I've been the moderator ever since the group voted to change it's status to moderated in 1997. I volunteered then, when asked, not realizing then that it's a difficult thing to change once one is in place. Fortunately, I sort of enjoy doing it. Most of the time, that is... And most of the time, I don't seem to have too many readers annoyed at me... (I hope). As to the Britney whatever posts, occasionally, posts manage to bypass the moderation setup with this or other moderated newsgroups. Normally, commercial advertising or off topic posting isn't allowed, and I enforce this by rejecting posts that don't meet the group's charter requirements. But if spammers bother to forge the approval headers in a post, then you might see those posts on some news servers. Many news servers reject that sort of faked posting when they detect it as mass posted spam. I for example, see no such recent faked postings to this group on the earthlink servers I use. But Google's news servers are sometimes sloppy about that, and may have let a few through. Not much I can do about it most of the time, since most of those posts with forged headers come from overseas, often China or Russia, , beyond anything I can affect. When it's sent by someone I can trace to a U.S. or conforming european ISP, then I can ask that ISP to discipline the poster. Forging approval headers like that is generally considered a serious breach of an ISP's terms of service, so most ISPs cancel the accounts of people who do that. But as I said, this doesn't often turn out to be a possibility due to the source of such posts. . Fortunately, most spammers don't bother with moderated groups, simply because there's little benefit to them, what with posts not reaching many readers, and general annoyance being generated, rather than business. In any case, I'd encourage you to stick around and participate in this group if you wish. We're not an enormous group of people, and usually the volume of posts is relatively small, at least as compared to the much busier and larger orchid list. But it's an interesting group at times. You might grow to enjoy us... :-) And some here might also be able to offer help in business idea, marketing schemes, etc. if you ask for such advice... Peter Rowe moderator rec.crafts.jewelry |
