While "surfing", I came across some bracelets made by a Dutch man named
van Heeckeren. (see Google and the name)
He describes them as hollow, constructded, sterling Silver. He wants a
fantastic price,e.g.$A 6000/pair for them and I wonder,
a) how, actually they were made, and
b) who would buy them, also,
c) who might wear them, if anyone!

Has anyone any ideas about them?
Does anyone else make expensive jewellery articles anything like this?

I am curious!

Peter, whilst I have nothing to do with the jewellery trade myself, I am
always interested in what I read here. Much that your correspondents write
has an application in other activities in metalwork and the absence of
stupid political and off-topic posts make the site well worth-while
to read.

Please keep up the good work !

As much fun as I'm certain you have digging through Google for some
obscure website, many of us don't share this passion. So how 'bout you
post the URL?

Right-click on the address in your browser and choose copy.
Then move over to the message you are writing and use Paste.
http://www.zip.com.au/~koroba/bracelet/Brac0044.html

For a longer one than that, you can go to tinyurl.com first, paste
it into their box, and then highlight and right click the tiny url
to paste he
http://tinyurl.com/259c7p

He describes them as hollow, constructded, sterling Silver.

I don't think we can comment until you give us the actual url
of the particular bracelet you are interested in knowing about.

Well, a couple of posters couldnt be bothered to look on google, It took
me some 30 secs to find the bracelets in question.

As some of you may know, bracelets have been one of my mainstay
productsover the years, so it was curiosity that prompted me to take a look.

So, having found them, do you want my honest opinion?
As we all know, any one can ask any price for what ever they offer
for sale. wether they realistically expect to make a sale is up to them.
my honest view is:-
there nothing out of the ordinary as bracelets go,
there over priced by a scandalous amount,
as a design there naff ie dull,

Worst of all he makes himself look a fool.
any collector who knows anything about torques, bracelets in a
historical context will know that there a con at that price.
the curb chain is a standard mass produced item. the curves can be
easily rolled on a jenny , ive seen this shape pressed out with a fly
press and a pair of tool steel dies.

sorry but thats from me who has made every kind of bracelet for over
30 yrs.
My respected colleague Abrasha who also has Dutch lineage may well
put it much stronger than me.

Speaking of not bothering, no one yet has done anything to confirm
whether we are talking about the same web page. Possibly this address?
http://www.zipworld.com.au/~koroba/b.../Brac0061.html
([]yes [] no)

A really strange thing about the ads is this detail about
sterling: " Annealing temperatu 750 degrees Celsius. Melting
Temperatu 950 degrees Celsius."

Why would any buyer be interested in this?
Well, the jewelry is described as "bondage" bracelets. Perhaps some
accident related to the practice can occur, necessitating on-the-spot
repairs to the bracelets with a propane canister torch, a rubber
hammer, and a hamster.

The URL for the bracelet was

http://www.zip.com.au/~koroba/bracelet/Brac0061.html

It seemed to be a tremendous price and I wondered who might be prepared to
lay out such a sum, when I could not imagine anyone wearing them.

Oh, if you walk around the mall, you will see that jewelry for various
subcultures is a big market. Goth, gay, pierced/tat/body mod crowd,
anime fans, bikers, sci/fi fans, athiests, the religious, the art crowd,
and middle american/european consumers. Tribal aspects of jewelry in
post-postmodern times are thriving.

Specialist jewelry will always cost more. You can buy bondage
bracelets much cheaper, if you want.
