Keepsake FQ special fabric amounts for quilts
Thanks. I sure wish they would have made it a bit clearer, then I would have
waited a bit longer and gotten the Winter pack. I had planned on replacing my fall placemats that are more than a bit worn. Any fall leaves would be appreciated. Wanna trade? Promise I won't send the FQs "in the same design but diff colors" ; ) Butterfly |

Maybe it's counterproductive to start out thinking you have to make a
king-size quilt. Just shop your stash and make a couple of compasses and a couple of pickle dishes. Stick them on the design wall. Make a couple more. Are you tired of them yet? Add the connecting "squares". Do you like it? Does it look done to you? Want to make more? Going by the picture, they can all be different but in a similar color palette. Try a wild maverick pickle dish that really pops out and see if you want to keep it. Experiment! Not everything has to be planned and purchased before you start sewing. Breaking it down even 'stashier' than that would be a challenge maybe beyond me! Taria "Nann" wrote in message ... I won't dispute everyone who's made the calculations, BUT: are you planning to buy ALL new fabric for this quilt? If you have most of it in your stash already, does it matter if the top requires 52 or 62 yards? And you can make a pieced back. You could challenge yourself to make the entire quilt from your stash and justifiably dine out on that accomplishment for a long time. It could work for what I want to do. Under the materials list is 2-3/4 yds of 17 prints. 2 yds. for binding and 14 yards for backing. That comes to a whopping 62-3/4 yards. My question is how much fabric would you guess is an average for a king size quilt? This number seems kind of crazy. Taria |

fabric amounts for quilts
I kind of think that is the direction this will go if I take it on.
I might just think about it forever. I rarely do quilts that are all several fabrics that are all thought out ahead. Most of my stuff is scrappy in some way. So what is your deadline project? I don't do deadlines so well, especially since dh retired! Taria "Roberta" wrote in message ... Maybe it's counterproductive to start out thinking you have to make a king-size quilt. friendship quilt fabric amounts for quilts
Once a year, I put together a friendship quilt for a charity
foundation. (http://www.fawcofoundation.org/index...6&It emid=143 if you're interested) The quilt will be raffled at the conference in March, but it needs to be finished by the end of November so we can photograph it, put up the picture, and start selling the raffle tickets. The last of the blocks arrived a couple of days ago, and I have sort of a plan. If it works. Started some assembly this morning. Keepsake FQ special fabric amounts for quilts
I refer to my enjoyment of ordering 100 fat quarters from Keepsake for
$99 as my form of gambling. It would be easy to drop $100 at the river boats in Illinois in just an hour and I would go home empty handed. By ordering fat quarters I have the excitement of sorting through the fabric, matching it up for Yellow Brick Road quilts and occasionally giving a few fat quarters away. Instead of one evening of fun on the river boat I have several days of fun with the fat quarters. All fabrics are first quality but some are really out of my style. The last batch yielded a great red, black and white throw and another patriotic throw plus the start of a pretty pink baby quilt. My type of gambling. Susan On Thu, 20 Oct 2011 15:23:05 -0500, Sandy E wrote: Howdy! LOL! But, B-fly, that's the point! The write-up sez, "last season's patterns and colors." Just think one-step-back: The Fall collection has their LEFT-OVER-from-Summer fabrics. Winter will give you the Fall collection. Spring sends the Winter/Holidays fat quarters; and so it goes. I love it. Fresh fabric, this year's crop, and all from name brand design lines. Comes out to $4 per yard, & with most new fabrics hitting the market at $10+ per yard, I'm loving this bargain. There are a few fabrics I would not necessarily have chosen, but no good fabric goes to waste. Like the 6.5" squares in the Baseball Swap, it's a new-to-me variety. And it is good. ;- B-fly, do you need fall colors? Lemme' know; I have a few in stock.... 8- Cheers! Keepsake FQ special fabric amounts for quilts
Well, there is that. I don't gamble. I just hate losing and am not
so lucky that way so I keep my money. The one thing I have found is that a random/ not selected by me batch of fat quarters will add fabrics that I wouldn't buy but do add interest to my work. I always thought of last season patterns as those from a year ago too. I get what they mean but like Butterfly I would'nt have gone there first thing. I wonder if Keepsake would do an exchange?
