Hello Bette. It all depends on how much you want to spend on a
machine. You can get a Bond (8mm) and even at half off with the
coupon from joanns.com, also heard that Michaels will take that same
coupon. But the Bonds are a real cheap machine and some will fight
with it from the start, where others are able to start knitting right
away. Then the next step up would be the Silver Reed LK-150, or if
you luck out on eBay with a used LK-100 (9mm), LK-140(6.5mm) or the
LK-150(6.5mm). Those along with the Brother KX-350 are a mid gauge
(7mm) may be your best bet. The higher the number on the pitch (mm)
the thicker the yarn it will take. Oh there is also the HK-100 (8mm)
not sure if it is a plastic bed or metal.

But it really is all up to you what you want. There are many Bonds up
on eBay, and others.

I would say to go with the LK-150 as that is still being made today,
and brand new at allbrands is about $350 where you would get somewhat
of a warranty, but even the used ones usually don't have much
problems. But again is what do you want to spend on one.

Hope this clears some of it for you.
