Just to let everyone know that this book is being reprinted! It is due
out in the last part of November or the begining of December. I
pre-ordered mine from Stitches N Things. Can't wait to get it.

There will be some new things in it, too.

Too bad! That means my old one won't be worth $400 on Ebay anymore!

Sorry I don't. The following is what I rec'd in my Stitches N Things
newsletter.

TAKING ADVANCE ORDERS FOR ... expect in late November/early December

The Proper Stitch

If you are a cross stitcher and stitch on linen, this is THE must have
book! This reprinted edition of Darlene's classic reference book has
a new cover, new pictures, new stitches and updated stitch diagrams,
and 2 designs that utilize the stitches. The graphs for different
stitches are very well drawn and explained, and if the stitch is not in
this book, you don't need to stitch it! Hardcover, spiral binding, 168
pages, this would make the perfect gift for yourself or your favorite
stitcher!

Um. It actually says -
"if the stitch is not in
this book, you don't need to stitch it! "

That's pretty darn arrogant. And judgemental.

But I do love my original copy of this book.

For those with LOTS of spare cash there is a copy of the 1994 edition of
the book "Proper Stitch: A Guide for Counted Thread (ISBN: 0932437036)
Darlene O'Steen" for sale at www.abebooks.com for 595 (five hundred
and ninetyfive) US dollars.
For those with not quite so much spare cash there are some copies on
ebay for just under 300 (three hundred) US dollars...

Is the book that good? I can't imagine paying that much for a needlecraft
book. I am now on the lookout for one at the second hand bookstores or will
see about buying the reprint.

It's a very good book, if you're into stitching on linen. It was one
of the first books I saw that addressed the history and execution of
of various specialty stitches. It has very clear diagrams, and
wonderful directions on ending and starting threads. The original
edition was spiral bound with a hard cover and a wrapped binding, so
that you could open the book to the page that you wanted and it would
stay there.

I had a copy of the original printing, but never used it. I sold it
about four years ago.

It's very difficult to find in second-hand bookstores online, as
on-line booksellers can see how much it's going for on line.
