Messy ink?
In years gone by, when the butler used to iron the newspaper before the
master was presented with it, I understand that the ironing was not so
that the master would see only a nice, smooth paper, but that no ink
would come off on his hands, the table cloth or bed sheets. So, perhaps
that might still work?

Boy Anita those crumb quilts are really wonderful.

Thanks Anita! I really like how you set the blocks on point,
alternating with the solid squares.

Generally, if you 'save' old newspapers, for at least a week or
two, the ink will 'set' and not present a problem. Of course that
is not very helpful if you want to know the time of the weekly
quilt meeting, but may help those who sew with the paper. I
prefer to use a very cheap fabric. Perhaps well washed sheets
will work.

Delightful, Pat. Thank you. We really do have a butler's pantry but I am
the only staff in there. If a real butler ever shows up, I'll be sure to
mention the newspaper pressing to him. I do like to stuff things such as
our hurricane gear with fresh newspaper. Something about the newsprint ink
seems to keep the propane stove, perk coffee pot and such from smelling
stuffy. Polly

I'd gladly settle for a butler's pantry. Storage pretty thin around
here. Not only that I don't even have any hurricane gear. Earthquake
gear, now that I have.
If your butler ever shows Polly I hope he is a hunky thing : )

I've never heard of using telephone book pages? Does it really work?

I was worried, at first, that the colors would
bleed through, but they don't, the fabric stays
clean, and the paper tears easily.

Just want to clarify, that's not my web page,
not my quilts! (I'll get there, though!) I'm
learning *from* that website.

I thought you could set the ink by ironing?

I'll have her try that.
Someone else suggested it too.
Thanks, Taria
