Dear Group ... Kathy in Alaska
Hi Everyone... if you can read this message then this means that I am
back in the RCTQ loop and able to post again. As some of you may know, I have been having computer problems for the past few months and unable to post to this group. To those of you (you know who you are) who have kept up with me via personal emails and snail mail I REALLY appreciate your time and support. I would love to thank Elena in Texas for her time and energy. Elena asked me if she could post my first quilt photo's up for everyone to see. I do not have the ability to do this and it really meant the world to me, as I would have never even had a first quilt if it wasn't for the kindness, support and generosity of many of YOU in RCTQ. If you haven't seen my pic's ...here they a http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...109&uid=769647 Perhaps you can identify a scrap you may have sent me :-) I seem to be in a "log-cabin" mode and can't get out of it... has anyone else ever experienced this? I am not complaining... but it seems like everytime I sit down at the machine I automatically start to make log cabins. I do 1 1/2 inch strips and a 3 inch square in the middle. BLACK FABRIC: I have ordered (from Big Horn in Montana) some of the new Michael Miller - Jet Black fabric which is supposed to be the newest... blackest of the blacks fabric. Does anyone have any experience with this black fabric? I can't seem to get a black black enough. I hope this cures that problem. A not too brief comment (un-solicited) about people who ask for "quilty" things. I have been reading the recent posts on this topic and think back to early last spring when I first entertained the thought of quilting. I was thrown out of Pfaff Friends (a quilting group on the internet) and called a "scammer" by the Pfaff Friends moderator because in my first intro post I asked for information, help and donation / scrap resources to get me started. I was sent some VERY cruel emails by the moderator as well as some members of that group that said some very hurtful and horrible things about me and my health problems. It was because of my health/confinment to begin with, that I wanted to learn how to quilt. It was RCTQ members that picked me up, brushed me off, supported and accepted me the way I am. For this... I thank you. For those of you I have had the privalege (sp?) to exchange with, I thank you. And for those of you who had requests that I have been able to fill... thanks for letting me give back to the community who supported me when I needed it most. Well... before I continue with my rambling on... I will send this off and see if in fact I am back on and if this even gets posted to the group. Most Sincerely, Kathy (in Alaska) |

So far, I've used cheap black broadcloth, so I don't know. But I haven't tried hand quilting through any of it yet, and that will probably make a huge difference. Hullo Kathy
It's really good to see you back. Somehow Alaska seems less far away when you are posting! I agree with what others have said: there are so many variations on log cabin, it is so useful. Try it with different shapes for centres. You'll love it. Then you can have different width strips and see the effect that has. No end of possibilities. If you like it and can do it well so that you enjoy the making, why change?!! .. Howdy!
Lovely pics, Kathy. How is this quilted--or to be quilted? I love LogCabin quilts; so many options, so much beauty. You live in a lovely place. Let us know about the new MMiller black. Glad you found a home here on RCTQ; it was our luck that you were "thrown out" of the other group. Horrible to think that McCarthyism still exists; one person yells "TROLL!" and too many fall in step, throwing sticks&stones&insults without reason or cause (like being black-listed when some twit yelled "Commie!"). Esp. when the person being labelled *has* posted to the group and given a short bio and done nothing to deserve the bad rap. We've all posted in haste and had some bit of regret over it; hopefully this very tolerant, usually loving group will move on and accept others into the fold.. ;-) Good that you found us. Thanks to Elena for posting the pics! Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy---btw: how's your stash? g "Kathy" wrote in message om...
