Default OT but craft related

I have a terra cotta birdbath that I want to paint HOT PURPLE. Catalogs
charge 89 + shipping. vs 2 cans of paint for 16. Other than scrubbing is
there any other preparations I should be doing?

I'd suggest you prime it first. It will help seal it. Also it should make the
paint hold up longer as well as go on easier and require less of it.

The last thing I sprayed without priming took three times the paint I expected
it would.

Yep, you'll want to seal it, because if you don't, water you put in it
will likely cause the paint to bubble and peel.
