Well, with my circumstances, this could be a candidate for the worst summer
ever, but we are trying to make a silk purse...well you know. So I whiling
my time away quilting and puttering around my house and chatting (online and
on the phone) with family and friends, and I have had a lot of fresh flowers
around me, and I'm cherishing all those little golden moments with my hubby
& kids, and trying my best to ignore everything else. And we're trying to
fill up the summer with classic summery fun to distract us in between all
the circles on our calendar...water gun fights and shooting hoops and
watching ballgames, and grilling food and going to movies and blowing
bubbles and all that good kind of stuff. So, all I can say is that this
summer is having it's moments.

Best of luck to you and yours Kris, and here's to what you can salvage of
summer!

Hi All,

I had an unexpected root canal this week and have five more dental

visits
scheduled. I might be leaving for PA today- my mom is back in the

hospital &
is scheduled for a small surgery this morning and to start kidney dialysis

(
sp?) today. So, this is what I've been up to, besides my shoulder
recovery. I hope you all are having a better summer- I don't like all my
scheduled calendar activities to have red circles around them ( meaning

a
doctor or dentist appointments). I need some more fun activities - to

balance
this out. grin
So if anyone is in or traveling in the northern Virginia area , just

give a
yell.

Kris ( in northern Virginia)

Just a hop skip and a jump away. OK, maybe it's a bit further. I'm up in
Langley, BC, about 15 minutes from the Canada/US border.

There's an ice cream truck in our neighborhood -- every time I see it I
say to myself "only in America". The sign on the truck says "Ice Cream
and Italian Gelato", it's driven by a Sikh, and the music it plays is
"La Cucaracha".

Now that is one thing I LOVE about California! The improbable mixes
make every day interesting!

The neighborhood where my boyfriend lives has an ice cream truck come
around two-three times a day. Different trucks, different songs. I
love the old panel truck with a Spanish-only speaking driver, music is
"Bicycle Built for Two"!! Gotta love it. Oh, and there are the vendors
who sell from handcarts also.

Ginger in CA
betting today will be hotter than it has been all week, which was hot!

Ours comes by about 3-4 times a day, plays "The Entertainer" and my son gets mad because I won't let him have a $4 ice
cream. I keep the freezer stocked with Schwans ice cream, pop cicles, and about a zillion "iceee" things (the ones that
come in tubes that you freeze). Our ice cream man makes me nervous with the way that he looks at the kids....so I keep
the freezer stocked, and when there are a bunch of kids playing in the yard, I always have a pitcher of juice and
plastic cups for them, and everyone gets iceee treats. Needless to say, when kidlet is home, we don't have an empty
yard very often.

Hugs

The ice cream truck that used to come by every evening right at 5:00 during
April and May (when our weather is anything but warm) has mysteriously
disappeared now that we are in the high 80s. Go figure!

I hope it all quickly works out well for you and for your mom, Kris. Pretty
soon you'll use up your red circles and start having fun again.
Summer here is just gliding along. I've already got the routine down for
picking grandkids up at daycamp and there's only 2 more nights of soccer
games left to go to. In a couple more weeks it will really pick up speed
and seem to race toward Sept.

The one in our neighborhood stops in front of our house even if my kids
aren't outside. Hopeful, I guess. LOL

My neighbor is a young mother. Her dd is 2. I saw her at the ice cream truck
one day and said hi. She said she was just finishing changing her dd when dd
heard the truck. DD asked what it was and mommy told her it was the ice
cream truck and rushed out with her dd in one arm and $ in the other hand. I
said, "Oh man! Your life will never be the same. I can't believe you taught
her at 2 what that sound means!!!" LOL She has no idea.
