Well, in the first place, are you sure that your sewing machine is up to
the challenge of sewing heavy-duty materials? If you bought it from
Walmart, it probably isn't.

But hopefully you have a nice commercial machine that will handle this
with aplomb. There is special UV-resistant outdoor-type thread. Any
place that sells fabric like Sunbrella and the like will have what you
need. Sailrite.com sells it, so does questoutfitters.com and probably
other places as well.

upholsterer's supply? There's one in Vegas near where I live. Or can I get
it online cheaper?

I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but I do want good thread that will
last the longest. Brand names? Size/weight, or however it's rated. No
sense to cheap out if it will only last a few years.

Thanks in advance.

So, a Singer walking foot 111W155 isn't a machine capable
of sewing a couple of layers of canvas? Did you read my
post at all? Why so negative?

Where exactly in your original message quoted above did
you specify what model machine you were going to be using?

"...walking foot Singer..." is not exactly a lot of
information. I have a "walking foot" for my 1960 Singer
401A. "We" have seen lots of folks post messages about
their new "Industrial Singer" only to learn later that it's
actually a pile-of-junk-home-machine. I think Samantha was
just trying to warn you off of making a really big mistake.

In case you missed it, your previous messages (if any)
telling us about your machine, were not linked to this
thread. Chill!

You will want a size 69 at least, the 111W will handle up to 207 but that is
probably overkill for Awnings.
I would think a good place to start is the same source as the Sunbrella you
are using.

Where in your earlier post did you mention the machine specs???? Am I
missing a post or something??? o_O

BTW, she didn't sound negative to me at all ... she sounded like she was
trying to warn you so you don't try to do something that would eat up your
motor/break your machine. If I was thinking about sewing heavy canvas on my
quilting/sewing machine, I'd sure as *&$% appreciate it if someone warned
*me* not to break my baby!!

BTW, why are *you* being so negative and snotty???

If you're going to make comments, please post all that was written.
Instead, you only posted what I said, jumped on it, and commented on
Samantha's comments with no comments. She apparently has something against
Walmart that has nothing to do with the questions asked.

Getting some material, thread, and trying your machine is a "very big
mistake"? Wow, this sewing is pretty dangerous stuff!

Next time post the whole conversation so that we can follow you. Or try to.

How many Singer walking foot machines are there that are made for canvas?

The machine came from an upholsterer and canvas sewer. If I had a light
sewing machine, I would be asking questions about the machine, not the
thread. You DID see the question about the thread, didn't you? No? sigh

Because I asked a simple question, and I get someone jogging down the road
to Walmart.

Whoopsie!! Didn't see *anywhere* in your post where you specifically stated
that your SM was *made* for sewing canvas. Can you please cite where exactly
you specified that it's an Industrial machine?
Thanks!!

The machine came from an upholsterer and canvas sewer.

And you said that in this thread where???

Please point to it, thanks.

If I had a light sewing machine, I would be asking questions about the

machine, not the
thread.

P'raps *you* would know that you would ... but then, I don't exactly occupy
space in your head, now do I? Nor does anyone else responding to your
thread. How the hell would I know what you would or wouldn't ask!

You DID see the question about the thread, didn't you? No? sigh

I saw a thread that asked about what kind of thread to use in sewing canvas
.... nowhere at ALL did it state that you were using an industrial machine.

P'raps you should reread your thread. And p'raps you should just get a
gripola and realize that others were trying to be helpful with someone who's
experience and knowledge they weren't sure of -- no one was trying to be
snotty. But I can tell you ... no one likes having their toes stomped on
when they're offering ASKED-FOR assistance. So don't be too surprised if
others take the same attitude as those who've already responded to this
thread ... or if no one else responds out of concern that you'll take
*their* response out of context.

FTR, when more than one person thinks you overreacted and thinks you weren't
very clear, usually, it means you weren't.

............

BTW, why are *you* being so negative and snotty???

Where in the hell did you get that idea???? I didn't get that from her post
..... but then, I'm reasonably sure I'm sane.
