Advice on curtain widths
Usually when I make curtains I make them at least 2 widths and sometimes 2.5
widths. I'm making eyelet curtains for the first time and as you know this means they're not going to be gathered at the top in the usual way. I'm tempted to make them just 1.5 widths, mainly to save money as the fabric is so expensive, but also to allow in more light as they wouldn't bunch up as much when they're open. This means that each curtain would be 210cm wide (420cm altogether) and the window is 300cm wide. I'd be grateful for advice - do you think they would look too skimpy? Lizzie |

I seemed to recall some show I saw on making curtains, and they called for
the 1.5 times the width of the window. I have some that came with our home, and they seem fine, now if the eyelets are large holes, then I would do a bit more. Lizzie just made my daughter some tab top curtains, which like the eyelet ones are not as full as normal curtains. I made these 1.5 x the width and they look just fine.they have a nice "hang" without being straight. ( don't straight ones look as though you ran out of fabric or are too mean to make them properly?) go for it. paula. |

That was exactly what I was worried about Paula - that they would look
straight. But you've reassured me that they should look good at 1.5widths, so that's what I'll go with. Thanks to both you and Maine-iac Rose Lizzie |

Your welcome, and I agree with Paula that straight is not a good look on a
curtain. I have pleated drapes on all but 2, the kitchen has a valance only, and the spare bedroom is just some plain gold about 1.5 width, which they will all eventually be changed. I'm thinking of making a few quilt block curtains, probably for the dining room, and puter room, and if they work out, I'll think up something for the rest of the home. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Maine-iac Rose @--- remove the thorns and add a hyphen between the 2 words to email me. "Lizzie" wrote in message ... Lizzie No, I don't think they would look too skimpy. The eyelet look will probably be exposed when the curtains are closed but I look on this as a feature rather than anything negative. In all the house and home magazines I've seen, it is shown as a feature where you can see the eyelets. Quite attractive in most designs, IMO. Mavis |
