Default Piano Quilt for Silent Auction

A while back, I asked for help to find the piano quilt pattern. It was
in McCall's Quilting, Feb 2005. Thanks to everyone who helped find it!

Anyway, it was finished for the Silent Auction on Saturday (OK, it went
into the washing machine at 3:30AM). It took over $80 in fabric and at
least 100 hours of time. Fortunately, I had last week off and had the
time to work on it.

Our Congressman came by, asked if he had given anything to the band
this year, and put a $250 bid on the quilt. He said that even if he
was outbid, he would still donate the $250. One of the parents outbid
him with a bid of $255, so the quilt earned $505!!!!!!

I was really pleased with how the quilt came out. Foolish me, I read
Karen McTavish's book and decided to try it. Note to self: a Silent
Auction is NOT the time or place to spend immense amounts of time and
thread. It sure looked good, though.

Here is the link to the quilt. There are 3 pictures of the back
showing the quilting.

57 inches x 55 inches

Especially with the dense quilting, it is a large wall hanging.

That's a stunning quilt, Kim. The quilting is beautiful, and well worth
the time. What a wonderful financial result!

Great job Kim! I think that donating time, energy and love instead of money
to money raisers like this important. It shows people hoew important the
band is.

The band has been extremely important to DS. When he entered the
school, he only knew 4 other freshmen. After 2 weeks of band camp, he
had 75 friends to eat lunch with. He plays French Horn in the
Symphonic Band, Mellophone in the Marching Band, Trombone in the Jazz
Band, he learned Tuba for the school musical, and picked up Baritone
last week to play in Saturday's parade.

The extremely supportive band directors have made a real difference in
his life. He plays very well, does whatever they ask (except
practice!), and gets the other students to cooperate as well. He's
developed real leadership skills with this group. Even when the ADD
was causing such havoc with his other classes, his music was something
solid that he could count on.

DH and I have been on the Band Boosters committee for the past 4 years.
I have been the music liason to the school's Advisory Council for
almost that long. DH was Band Booster president this past year. DH is
also on the Choral Boosters at DD's school, so helping developing the
music programs has become a focus of our lives.

Now that DS is graduating, making the quilt was my Thank-you to the
band. The experiences he has had in high school made him stronger and
more confident. Next year, he is off to college, and has the music
director waiting anxiously for him. Once the music director of the
college realized that he can sing and play all those instruments, he
almost started drooling. It's wonderful to know that DS has a place
waiting for him next year, it makes me feel better knowing this.

I'm very pleased that the quilt raised the money that it did. If it
had only raised $50, I would have cried.

Kim
