I will be over in VA from 25th April as I mentioned. Will be there for 3
weeks and have a feeling I will have time on my hands and was looking for suggestions for a kit or ideas so that I could buy from here and have it delivered to sil in VA to have some sewing ready for me when I get there. I will have to hand sew (yuck) but that is better than nothing!I could take cutter and board etc but hoping there might be something ready to go! If you have ant thoughts I would be grtful! Well....
If you are in the mood for hand piecing you could order the great templates from http://www.ardcotemplates.com and then either go fabric shopping when you get there or order fabric for whatever you dream up from another shop. Or you could order a bundle of coordinated fat quarters to go with your templates. My favorite ones are sweet treats from Pincushion Boutiquehttp://www.sweettreat.com/index2.html You don't have to join the monthly club, you can just order one (look under "Featured Sweet Treats" and "Sweet Treat Archive". A quite famous hand piecer is Jinny Beyer. She has free block patterns on her website that you can combine with fabrics you order or you can order one of her kits (there are 53 of them!) lots to choose from. http://www.jinnybeyer.com Appliqué is another hand work option. I quite like Pat Campbell's patterns. http://www.patcampbell.com/pages/patterns.html Or, for something unique to America, how about Hawaiian appliqué? Nancy Lee Chong has some nice patterns although not all traditional. http://www.prqc.com/ You can also purchase fabrics and thread from them. Since you'll be in Virginia, you could order fabric, whatever notions you need or even a kit from http://www.virginiaquilter.com/ Happy shopping! marcella In article , "Estelle Gallagher" wrote: I will be over in VA from 25th April as I mentioned. What about a pre-cut Quilt? I noticed that a few of the Jinny Beyer's
ones are precut, (and also some paper pieced ones with little rectagles already cut). Also if you Google 'pre cut quilt kits', there are lots, including well known names - Fons and Porter have a bright Storm at Sea that I think is in their current issue. This would mean that you wouldn't have to take much cutting equipment with you and would also be easier in a non-quilting household! All you would need to take would be scissors, needles and thread, and a pencil and little ruler to mark seams with. -- Sally at the Seaside ~~~~~~~~~~ (uk) http://community.webshots.com/user/sallyswin On Wed, 29 Mar 2006 15:16:36 -0800, Marcella Peek wrote: Well.... I went to your quilt photos to see what you'd done. Aha. No Sunbonnet Sue.
No crazy. Think about doing before your trip some Sues that need embellishment. Your could do the blocks and slip them in your clothing/luggage, one that needs a bit of handstitched lace, one wanting some stuffing in balloons, one with daisy chain embroidery, you've got the idea but I don't know how much time you have. Or - you could do a few blocks of crazy in velvet, silk and satin. Carry some embroidery stuff with you and embellish to your heart's content. If you only return home with enough for a pillow - no matter. At least you didn't kill anyone with a severe case of 'quilting withdrawal syndrome'. We are about to do a mountain camping trip and I'm always concerned about stitching to take. Carrying even a featherweight in a backpack is not an option. Hope you didn't think great-grandmothers were Little Helpless Old Ladies. Polly |

Thankyou Shana. I could easily take embellishments with me,they dont take up
too much space! Just need to make a crazy first! -- Estelle UK http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/gal.../ph//my_photos "craftydragon1951" wrote in message oups.com... How about embellishing a crazy quilt? Shana |

I was thinking of hand piecing the crazy part too. (Not always good at
writing down everything I'm thinking.) All you would need in advance is the foundation pieces cut. Enjoy your trip. Shana |

Well....which patterns did you get? I have Tropical Floral 2 and Woodland Lei. I've made the breadfruit block from the first pattern (for a class) and that is as far as I've gotten. marcella |
