It is a cute design - I just fell in love with that face the first time I
saw it. Ask me if I still love it in the months to come. :-) Yes I'm
starting in the middle ... in the middle of the 5th page .. I guess that's
how I'm supposed to do it. At the front of the booklet - they show a 9-page
booklet like this -

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

soooooo I'd say the middle was the middle of the 5th page ... yes? no?
It's just that when you have never done a pattern booklet-style - you just
say to yourself 'is it that easy to figure out where the middle is?' This
may look very easy to some stitchers .. but I never trust myself on the
first try. Started it tonight tho' - so wish me luck.

Are you starting in the middle? Looking at that picture, I'd definitely

try
to start somewhere in the middle - maybe with the little bit of blue

peeking
out. I guess the alternative would be to start at the very top - and work
your way down. It's a cute design.

Hope you made a set of working copies to mark on - especially if you need

to
put in any "adjustments" . I always make some kind of note if I do a

stitch
in a different color and aren't going to rip-it - that way it doesn't

screw
up the rest of my counting.

I'm sure you'll have fun! I don't know what I'm picking up next. Maybe
another UFO - or I'll start another piece out of stash.

I have that one in my stash - I love that pattern too. Once I move out from
the centre a bit, I will tape the pages together - much easier to follow
that way I find. But gridding??? - I'm too lazy to do that ... you have
permission to say 'I told you so' if I come on here complaining later on.
:-))

When I did Fire & Ice, I made copies & taped them all together, and
gridded the fabric, numbered the rows one way, lettered them the other
way, and STILL got lost sometimes(!)

I'm afraid the Gumnuts are out for me , but I have so many other threads
(silk and cotton) that I'm sure I can substitute - never really thought of
the need to wash !!!! You're right that will probably decide me on thread ,
probably DMC although I have some DMC flower thread that may work .

will see what is out there, sheeting should work I would think.
Also I will use DMC or ANC floss. . I am not familiar with the weight
of the gumnuts "stars" silk but thinking 1 strand floss will
substitute well, will play around with a sample and see. It will
definitely be a washable fabric. I have done one project on Doctors
flannel and it is lovely to work with but will felt when washed also
expensive.
It is such a lovely combination of art work and story. I hope she
does another.

I'm working on finishing Christmas Cove first, and then it will be either
Elsa Williams "Lighting the Course", or Dimensions Gold "Sleigh Ride". Why
is it that all the patterns I like lately only come in kit form? Expensive
to start with, but add in the cost of replacement fabric too.....

Now that the holidays are nearly over and everyone should have a little

more
free time, what projects are everyone starting? I only have one Christmas

UFO
to finish, and one general UFO after that, so I can feel totally justified

in
having fun with some new projects. My thoughts are running to a Hardanger
cushion from a recent Mary Hickmott's New Stitches magazine (I can tell
Hardanger is going to become a major obsession for me), and/or a blackwork
cushion from a summer issue of the same magazine.

I didn't get any stitching-related gifts for either holiday (we celebrate
Christmas and Chanukah here, which means I've had no time to stitch too!),

but
fortunately before the holidays I treated myself to the two things I

wanted the
most, a DMC Sweetpea Flower Fairies kit and a DMC peonies ready-made bag

kit,
which I'm thinking of making for my mother's birthday in February, so

those are
possibilities too.

When I was taking care of little ones, one of my first projects for them
was a cloth book. A velvet butterfly, mohair cat (chain stitch) with a
tiny bell on his collar, sequined goldfish, caterpillar hiding under an
appliqued leaf. I'll have to hunt up that issue of Inspiration. I used
as many different textures as I could find in my stash at the time. It
was a fun project. One of those you don't leave in the kid pile, but set
aside to read and touch with the child, since mine was not baby proof.

Was browsing in the needlework magazines and low and behold in Issue
39 of Inspirations magazine is the perfect project. A cloth book
featuring a little french mouse by the name of Monet. There is a
pattern for a cloth book bag to go with it. I am only going to do the
book and will set a deadline for xmas 2004. Also working on the
blackwork mermaid.
Will be taking a weekend workshop with Linda Lachance, canvas work
piece, stained glass Irises in March. Will probably take me the rest
of the year to finish the project. LOL!

If I'm remembering correctly (have some buried in my stash somewhere) -
it is more like pearl 12. Floss should do just fine.

ource - may try on sheeting ? What will you use ?

My DH gave me Drawn Thread's "Marriage of the Minds" Sampler, along with the
silks and fabric needed. (I Guess my subtle list in his book worked LOL). I'm
going to join a SAL in January. Next March is our 30th Wedding Anniversary and
I'm going to add our dates, etc to it and make it a nice anniversary sampler.
Not that I need any more samplers, you know, but I don't have one of these.
Can't wait to start it, have fondled the silks every day since Christmas!
