Delurking at last
Hi all,
Guess it is time I pop out of lurkdom and introduce myself. My name is Anita and I currently live in Anchorage Alaska. I have no QIs (we move way too often to be fair to the four-legged friends), two kids (1 boy, 1 girl), love chocolate in just about any form and am attempting my first quilt for anything bigger than a Barbie doll which I made way back in my younger days. I just want to say thank you to all of the hints, tips, ideas and inspirations you have provided over the years that I have been hanging out here. I can remember when Spike and Giles were not yet born if that gives you any idea of how long I have read this group. Every time we relocate to a new country or state, RCTQ is the first newsgroup I search out and subscribe to. My first quilt is for my daughter and is titled Kira's Kitties. Her grandmother sent her the panel for a birthday present a few years ago and this year I finally plucked up enough courage to start something. Kira has picked the colors and block styles so far for this quilt. It is all hand pieced and will be handquilted (I hope) once it is fully assembled. Without the constant peeks at what all of you are doing I don't think I would have ever taken the plunge, but I just get so inspired to try new things when I see how well they turn out here that I couldn't wait any longer. Here is the link in case anyone is interested in seeing Kira's Kitties so far. http://community.webshots.com/album/469941514WZhHMJ Anita (back to mostly lurking since I really don't have any knowledge to add, just lots of praise for quiilts made by this group) |

It's lovely to meet you, Anita. I joined in when Spike and Giles were
six months old; so I haven't been here as long as you! Kira's kitty quilt is going to be really pretty and bright. And if you can make quilts at a Barbie doll size, then you have skill. You will have experience to pass on, if you hand piece and quilt. Lots of people need tips on hand piecing, from time to time. Just "mostly" lurk, but do pop in again - for instance, when the kitty quilt is finished? .. In message , Harry and Anita writes Hi all, Guess it is time I pop out of lurkdom and introduce myself. Anita, that's beautiful! I wish I had the patience for hand piecing, but I'm
addicted to the zoom of the machine and the speed with which it turns out (somewhat less than perfect for me) blocks. I love the kitties and the red and green are lovely. -- Debi Ever stop to think, and forget to start again? "Harry and Anita" wrote in message ... Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I hand piece while the kids are doing homework so I can easily move around to help with problems or while we watch movies and enjoy some family together time. That is also when I do (or did) my cross stitching as well, but handpiecing is even easier to pick up and put down because you don't have to count squares and stitches when picking up dropped work. I do have a Singer sewing machine, circa 1957 I believe. Poor girl has been moved from PA to OH to England to IL to Germany and now to AK over the last 15 years. One of these days I need to take her to a shop for a good cleaning before actually using her. Somewhere amidst my crafting stash is a set of attachments and a manual as well. I hope she doesn't feel too neglected. Anita (in AK where the forecast for the next several days says, "Snow showers; ) http://community.webshots.com/user/arheasn |
