Default Another Sorrento Retreat Report

Hi Everyone

April 24th I drove up for my third Sorrento B.C. retreat. I had a great
time, but unfortunately got a nasty sinus infection and laryngitis when I
came back.

So here is my delayed report. This year our project was called Timeless
Circle. If you want to see a picture of the teacher's quilt check out the
Sorrento Centre's website at

Unfortunately Jane's classes didn't go this year so we only had a group of
13 including the teacher for the week. We were small but mighty.

I designed a doll by committee for us to make on opening night which proved
to be a lot of fun. We drew names and our teacher Dianne won one and Velda
our emcee won the other. They proudly had them on display all week and grew
closer with them each day.

Basically everyone was sent a body part and teams of 6 put the dolls
together along with some embellishments and then had to create a story about
their doll.

Monday morning we were hard at work making our drunkard's path centres for
the quilts. Dianne told us this got easier as it worked out...yeah next was
uneven log cabins that were only 3" finished! I paper pieced mine.

Our next border was 3-D flying geese and then a bi-rangle 3" finished
star...at least one. I did 4, boy were they a challenge.

Next we had a piece quarter circle that I ended up redesigning to have
flying geese entering and leaving the formation. I'm pleased with how they
look, I'll appliqué the insertion into the quarter circle.

Our next challenge was we had a 4 patch and bias triangle border before we
add our borders. I ran out of my background fabric and had to substitute
another look alike for my 4 corners. I think it will work out alright. I
didn't get them attached yet.

All that's left is our final borders, and I think I'll add some more geese
entering and leaving formation again.

I did mine in black and whites and some pink, aqua, and yellow fabrics that
I did my Colour Storm "I can't believe it's a log Cabin and my Bargello
quilts in. Next year people are telling me I need to get out of my box!

Next year we're probably working on making totes, so that will be fun.

The drive up and back along the Coquihalla Highway was gorgeous each day.
Coming home around Pritchard, just outside of Kamloops I saw them
irrigating. I saw on the side of the hill the straw was covered in ice..the
temp was 0C [32F]! On the last day of April for goodness sake! I stopped
and got some neat shots.

Well I'm finally getting my voice back and feeling a bit better after having
to take most of the week off.

Next weekend is our quilt show, if anyone is in the Vancouver area please
head over to the Richmond Curling rink on May 13-15 and check out our show.
http://members.tripod.com/~FVQG/index.html is our website for any
information you might like to check out.

Cheers,

This class looked really neat, and very challenging. Someday I'm gonna make
it up to Sorrento...I've got a special reason for going: one of "my" quilts
is hanging there! [Actually, it's a quilt made by the Longairs using my
pattern, but I still feel like it's
mine...http://members.shaw.ca/whiskerwerx/g.../longair.html]
