Default How to ship a machine

I'm wondering if any of you have any ideas on this one...

I have an Artisan knitting machine I'm interested in selling. Since
I'm leery of having strangers in my home, I'm considering putting it
up on eBay. So now I'm researching shipping options.

I'm not liking what I'm finding. Sending it as is would be very
expensive. I could save by disassembling it, but I'll have to do that
myself. I'm having a rep from a packaging company come out to look at
it and give me a quote for sending it disassembled, but I'm afraid
that will still cost more than most buyers would pay.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Laura
