So why bother? Give them something cheap from the discount store and
either wear the scarves yourself or give them to someone who WILL
appreciate them

Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.

My sentiments exactly. When you take the time to make something special, it
should go to someone who will appreciate your efforts. ;)

nod nod nod, YEP-pers, Shelagh!

Just to add to Olwyn Mary's comment: if it turns out they like the items
from the store and at least give a thank-you, then you can stop trying to
create something yourself that they will appreciate. If they don't value
beautifully hand-knit items and prefer mass-produced gifts, then that's what
you should give them(if you feel like giving them anything at all, of
course).

Happy knitting and stay well.

Carey,
thing IS, both mother and sis DO realize intricate work and handmade
items 'value'... however, they're both (mother more than sis!)
COMPLAINERS by nature, so there's no pleasing them/her.

Yannow what? Olwyn Mary has a point here. Why waste your time trying to
"impress" or "please" these people? Knit/crochet/whatever for people who do
appreciate it, and stop beating yourself up about them.

Higs,
Katherine

A-men to that!

You're a better woman than I. I no longer give gifts to people who
don't at least acknowledge the gesture, and I certainly don't give
handknits to them.

+++++++++++++

Too many years of *trying* when it comes to my mother especially
have me gun-shy, and I'm going to give 3 of them to the oncology dept.
at the Nashville VA, where the baldy-chemo ladies WILL appreciate
them!

I'm dealing with a similar situation. I was all set to knit a whole
bunch of things for my future granddaughter (my 1st grandchild due in
Jan!) and I realized the parents to be are not enthused at all by the
idea of hand knit items. I've knit a few things, but I won't knit as
many as I thought I would.

I'll wait a few years until she is old enough to tell me herself that
she wants these things and then go crazy

We know the things would be fully appreciated!

Hesira pointed out to me that I should go ahead and knit for Baby B
saying Baby B may grow up to appreciate these things. I think she has a
very good point!
