Default starting casting on

I have just bought a Singer knitting machine model 888 with all the
bits and pieces. I have the instruction books but for the life of me I
cannot understand how to cast on, then get on to the knitting. Can
some one please help me.

thanks from Merrilyn.

Try this way. Set up the machine with some waste yarn. Push every other
needle out with the ruler tool made for that step. Next thread the yarn and
hold below the carriage, or tie off to something. Then push the carriage
from side to side for a few rows. Now push the empty needles into place and
knit a few more rows. Then you can start with the yarn of choice and knit
away. I don't know what gauge the 888 is, I have the Bulky Singer.
Good luck.
