Default can stamps be used on fabric??

You will want to use a 'fabric dye' ink. JAF does carry this as well as
many craft stores and Rubber Stamp stores. I Rubber stamp on fabric all
the time. One of my favorite ways to rubber stamp onto fabrics is
sitting the stamp face up against velvet. Iron gently and the design
comes out on your velvet. it is great. You can use this same technique
with other fabrics as well, cottons though do work best with fabric dye
ink pads. They come in just about every color under the rainbow too.

I have a great rubber stamp that I am using on the laundry room walls,
and I was wondering if anybody had used rubber stamps on fabric before.

I figure you need to use fabric paints, but is there anything else I
need to know??? I had a brainstorm about the quilt I will be making for
our bedroom (when we get around to painting it - *have* picked the
colors, though!) while I was testing the stamp out on one wall in the
laundry room.

What i have is about a 3"x3" Celtic Knot stamp. In the laundry room, I
am using a dark teal, a metallic gold (and possibly a lighter teal) over
top a wall base color of a medium mint color. The section that I did
looks really cool, even if it only has the dark teal on it right now.

So, if you have used stamps on fabric for quilting, please let me know
what I need to do.........

TIA,

Larisa

I almost forgot one thing, The best stamps to use on fabric if using a
fabric paint (not the dye) are from a company called 'hot potatoes'.
The denser the design in the stamp the better you will find it to work
on your fabric when painted. Be sure however that you follow the
instructions on the paint you buy. They vary from manufacture to
manufacture.

you can even use pigment based stamp pads. it will say on the package whether it's
pigment or dye based. Just heat set, and off you go. I do this a lot for labels and
such. Since I'm a scrapbooker, beader and quilter, i like to double up my crafts as
much as possible.

You can use acrylic paint, with a little "textile" medium mixed in, or there
are specific fabric paints you can get at most larger stamp stores, or even
online.

have fun!

This works best on synthetic velvets, especially the rayon type.

Hot Potatoes stamps are very nice, but they're also expensive. I have had
great luck with what the stampers call "chunky" stamps, the big fat foam ones
like you'd find in the "kid" section of the craft stores, or the home dec
section. In fact, Hot Potatoes has lots of good info on their website
http://www.hotpotatoes.com/
for dealing with fabric and stampin'!

Happy stampin'

You can use Stamps on fabric with no problem, you can use, fabric paint

,
in using the fabric paint you will need to let it dry for about 24 hours
before heat setting, either by ironing or shoving it in the dryer for a

bit.
You can also get ahold of fabric ink, ( found in scrapbooking stores or

a
place that sells rubber stamps for making cards) they are an ink pad one
brand that I know of is Fabrico here is a link
http://www.sierra-enterprises.com/supplies.html .. you also have to

heat
set the ink. You can also use regular craft paint mixed with a bit of a
fabric medium heat setting is also involved.
Hope it helps..

ah heck, dont bother going to so much trouble, Dawn.
just stick that fabric in an envelope with my addy on it and put the stamps
in the upper right hand corner, then pop it into the post box.
its all so much easier and no chance of the iron burning you, eh.

AhhhhhhhhhhhhHAHAHAHA! Can't even afford the fabric right now (will
wait until room gets painted for that), so I probably wouldn't be able
to afford the postage either.....have to make curtains AND a quilt (or
duvet cover, haven't decided yet).

Larisa, who thinks it was a good try (btw, I almost said yes, simply
because my sister is named Teresa and lives in Colorado grin)
