Default OT found a hand set for my cell phone

My 96 year old mother couldn't relate to my cell phone. She could not
figure out how to hold it and talk or listen even if I held it up to
her ear. Putting it on speaker phone confused her too because she
didn't know where the sound was coming from and sometimes thought the
people were in the room. Yesterday I found a standard old fashion
shaped hand set that plugs into the cell phone where ear phones would
go. Now she thinks I have a pretty new bright green telephone and we
can take advantage of the week end free long distance to call her
sisters!

Brilliant, Susan. Scathingly brilliant. We don't relate to our cell phones
either. DH has a bad time hearing on ours and I wonder why everybody is
yelling at me. I'm thinking maybe we need a new bright green telephone too.

Hate to state the obvious (but can't count the times obvious really
wasn't). Have you tried turning up the sound?

Her problem wasn't the sound level but the shape of the phone. She
wants something she can hold in her hand that has a specific place for
the mouth and other place for the ear. She didn't understand that the
funny bar shaped thing was a telephone. At home she had a rotary
telephone until 1995!
