I think it's none of anyone else's business.

I'm glad you posted this, Cheryl, because it was looking like it was
going to turn into a feeding frenzy for a minute there. I have a customer who used to buy almost all of my eBay sets; she makes her living as a jewelry designer, of course, so she has a large budget for running her business. It would have been easy for someone to point the finger at her and scream "Shill!" because she would bid on almost every single thing I put up. Now she buys from my website, as does another customer who used to compete against her on eBay, which was driving my prices up. If anyone had looked, they would have seen this pattern of the same two people bidding on my auctions, and probably decided to point the finger. I don't find it at all odd that Oswald7 spent that much in a month, because I've had months where just ONE of these two ladies literally paid my mortgage. -Kalera http://www.beadwife.com http://www.snipurl.com/kebay Cheryl wrote: I did a quick scan of Oswald7s buying and selling... they have purchased 26 out of the 70 auctions this person has ever sold during their entire ebay experience.... which started Nov 2003 - Additionally - Oswald7 has spent over $$729 in November/ DECEMBER alone on glass beads from this seller already -- of course - Oswald7 also SOLD a $600 LV handbag, and another two "name" hand bags for a couple hundred more... Oswald7 has also bought OTHER boro glassworks -- so - my guess is that Oswald7 owns a shop or a boutique.... or gallery - and is buying and reselling these... because otherwise - they have an awful lot of hearts to wear.... and I kind of doubt that they are THAT much in love with the same design over and over.. A gallery owner?-- in a good area, who knows they can move the goods - THAT I WOULD BELIEVE ..... and an awful lot of "expendable income!!!! FWIW, there was a beadmaker from Israel who took the same Michael
Barley/Andrea Guarino class I took, a very skilled woman. -Kalera http://www.beadwife.com http://www.snipurl.com/kebay and no way I believe this person in Israel is getting 200 and $300 each for boro hearts -- |

I also have to point out that if Oswald were a shill bidder, they're a
terrible one, and costing the seller a fortune in final value fees. A shill bids but LOSES. -Kalera http://www.beadwife.com http://www.snipurl.com/kebay |

(in message ): Wow. I guess several people see something very special in that heart... it talks to them. I looked at this person's completed listings and they seem to have quite a following! I'm like that. If a bead "speaks to me," I have to have it, and I'm sure that there are plenty of times I've overpaid. Oh well - that really doesn't matter to me. What matters is that I got the bead in my greedy little paws. Those hearts don't speak to me, but I can see why some other people might be motivated to get them. However, I'm not utterly shameless and mercenary, even though it may appear that way. :-) I gave away a set of African trade beads today. I have been slowly collecting these beads, after a wonderful surprise gift from a very generous person here on RCB a couple of years ago. Anyway, I had bought a string recently that _didn't_ speak to me. Manda didn't get anything from them, either, which is unusual - we both love African trade beads, and they usually tell us an awful lot. We speculate for hours about the stories that these beads hold. There is a woman in my doctor's office who is researching her own African heritage, and has been running into brick walls. (Not much documentation out there) She wants to know where she's from, so someday she can tell her son about his people. Today, I brought her one of my strands of white hearts (the ones that didn't speak to me), and explained about the use of beads as currency, and how they are now becoming realized as a valuable part of African culture. (And one run primarily by women, for that matter) She was thrilled. Bob was horrified at first, thinking I sounded racist, but as he listened he realized I was simply telling her some info she wouldn't get on her own. Since many of these beads come from Italy and Bohemia, I speculated on the idea that perhaps some of Bob's or my ancestors made the beads that were then traded to her ancestors for the wealth of raw materials that comes from Africa. (Bob was worried that the beads were traded for slaves, and the prospect that these particular beads may have contributed to the misery of her long lost family) After we talked, she told me that she now has another story for her son, who is now six and will be thrilled at the sight of red beads. She's also going to hide the strand from them, so he doesn't claim them as his own. (Gee, I wouldn't know anything about a kid swiping beads, no siree) I'm off to bed - the doc gave me some new meds, and I'm wicked drowsy. Not that I have a problem with that: being able to sleep is a very welcome thing these days. Kathy N-V |

Orrza (the artist in question) has posted over on WC! regarding this.
Basically, he has a pretty loyal following that loves his work - which is great. I didn't mean for this to turn into a slamfest, but it did and for that I'm sorry. I just didn't see a $400 bead there, kwim? But there are certainly times when I wish I could spend that kind of dough on beads that really speak to me. I'd love to see why they are so valuable. Perhaps you could post his
website so we get a bigger, better picture of his artistry. Tina "Barbara Forbes-Lyons" wrote in message ... Orrza (the artist in question) has posted over on WC! regarding this. After posting my previous opinionated but foundless opinion, I actually
did some research and it looks like our more suspicious crew members were right to trust their instincts: http://snipurl.com/b9cd http://snipurl.com/b9ce http://snipurl.com/b9ca http://snipurl.com/b9cf I figured that if there's shilling, the item will reurn to eBay for sale not long after being sold. A little digging, and pouf; I'm a hardcore benefit-of-the-doubt girl, but that there is shilling. Fraud, ladies and gentlemen. -Kalera http://www.beadwife.com http://www.snipurl.com/kebay Barbara Forbes-Lyons wrote: $400? Huh? http://snipurl.com/b82l |

It looks like that buyer is buying items from several sellers then
reselling. Often at a loss. Some of the sellers are regulars on WC. Definitely curious, but I'm not sure I'd stake my reputation on it being shilling. It will be interesting to see how this turns out...
