Default Finishers 2006

I'll Host the Finishers 2006 support group/challenge group. (Wendy
asked if there was one and no one seemed to be chomping at the bit to
run one, so why not)

Okay, this may be a moment of pure insanity but it's not like I have
much else going on right now right? I can't get hired to save my soul,
apparently all the teachers (in ALL the districts in two counties) are
healthy as horses right now, and I can't seem to get something worked
out with my small business so.....I need a new project.

Give me a few days to work out details, feel free to suggest
ideas/suggestions, and I'd love advice from anyone who has recently set
up a yahoo group (or whatever they call it -- like what we are using
for the mini swap) as it has been many years (literally) since I set up
a mailing list with me as moderator.

Okay, off to convince myself I did just volunteer to do this *snicker*

Tricia, you beat me to this by about 10 minutes! But no worries - you go
right ahead! If I did it, I'd probably just be starting another project
instead of finishing one! LOL

So... hurry up already... ;-P

Okay, I have established a group on yahoo for us...

E-me using my cricket527 at charter dot net account if you want to be
invited to the group. I dont' want to fill RCTQ up with too many
details of it --- but I will post the specifics 1 time after I get them
worked out (I'll post them in this thread) so you can wait to decide
then if you want to be invited to join or not....or you can ask to join
up now, your choice.

Default Finishers 2006 Group -- Guidelines and Rules

I have no clue what happened to my last attempt to post this....okay,
before I cut and paste the guidelines, I just want to say a few things:

1. I have tried to make it so any level member can participate
2. The guidelines were written under the influence of pain meds (legal
ones, thank you very much) so feel free to ask any clarifying questions
you need to
3. If you all don't like this format this year, I shan't be offended if
you want someone else to do it for next year, but by golly, I'm gonna
try it this year!

Here goes:

Finishers 2006 Guidelines and Rules

What are we? We are a group here to support and challenge you to
finish up those projects you want to finish. We will have 3 categories
of "winners" in this challenge. Be a finisher or it will cost you.

Time Frame: Feb. 1 12:01 am (in your own time zone) to Dec. 31 11:59 pm
(in your own time zone.) Final reports/check-ins will be expected no
later than Jan. 8, 2007 11:59 pm Eastern Time.

Participants accepted up through Valentine's Day (midnight, Eastern
Time Zone). If you are joining between Feb. 7 and Feb. 14, e-me to
make sure I know when you are mailing your FQ "payment".

Participation requirements:
· 1 FQ per category you wish to be a part of
Posted to me no later than Valentine's Day
1 FQ enters you automatically in the "Most
Quilt Related Goals Completed" category (winners must meet the posted
requirements)
A second FQ sent must be labeled as to which
other category you are entering (winners must meet the posted
requirements)
3 FQs sent automatically enters you in all 3
categories (winners must meet the posted requirements)
· A list of goals you wish to accomplish and be held accountable for
between Feb. 1 and NYE posted to the yahoo group (all goals posted on
or before Feb. 14 will be considered official and binding)
· Join the mailing list (e-me for an invite before 11:59 pm Eastern
on Feb. 14)
· One Dollar US currency (strictly to cover the postage costs
associated with posting the prizes - I've never done this and am
estimating what I think would be needed to cover postage of those multi
FQ packages)
· Give status updates (the highs and lows) on a regular basis
Quilty Goals: between the 13th and 17th
of each month
Non-Quilty Goals: Weekly (or monthly
between the 13th and 17th if the goal is written in such a fashion)
· Support and encourage one another
· Send pictures (to me) of the completed goals as you finish them to
be posted (digital preferred but I can find access to a scanner if need
be)

Categories and Goal Clarifications:
General Topic: Quilty:
Category: Most Quilt related goals completed
This category will only have 1 pot to win
(winner will be the one with the most points):
If there is a tie, the pot will be split
accordingly
You may post as many goals in this topic as
you feel comfortable with
Goals for this category may vary wildly.
For those who are very new to
actually planning and working on the projects, it may be appropriate to
list separate goals such as "piece top", "sandwich", "M/H/T
quilt", "bind" as opposed to simply saying "Make my mom a
quilt".
For those who are very
experienced and comfortable with the process, listing a goal as
"Finish Twin Log Cabin quilt, machine quilted", is perfectly
appropriate.
List your goals as they would be
most beneficial to you.
Earn 5 points for each goal accomplished
Earn 10 bonus points if you complete all
your goals
Lose 1 point for every goal NOT
accomplished

Category: Completed everything well ahead of time

This category will only have 1 winner.
Those who finish all their posted goals (and
notify me no later than Oct. 31 noon, Eastern Time Zone) will have
their names put into a figurative hat to have one winner drawn at
random.

General Topic: Non-Quilty
Category: I did it!
This category will have only 1 winner.
Those who accomplish their posted 1 non-quilty
goal within the given time frame will have their names put into a
figurative hat to have one winner drawn at random
Goals here need to be measurable in some
manner. "Exercise more" just doesn't cut it. However,
"Exercise an average of 60 minutes a week over the course of the time
frame" does cut it (and you'll be expected to report your times
weekly)
Goals here can be anything that doesn't deal
with quilting. It can include garment sewing, crafting in other ways
(XS, crocheting, etc.), personal improvement (weight loss, exercise,
bible study, quitting smoking, etc.)
You only get ONE listed goal in this category
though and you MUST provide updates on success and non-success during
the time frame.

To Simplify Getting Started:
1. e-me for an invite to the group (cricket527 at charter dot net)
2. Decide how many categories you want to participate in
3. Establish goals for yourself
4. Snail me 1 FQ per category (and $1 USD) - snail addy will be
available on the mailing list only
5. Join group
6. Post Goals
7. Work on Goals
8. Encourage others to meet their goals
9. Post status updates monthly
10. Send pics of completed items
11. Most importantly - ENJOY YOURSELF!

Default Finishers 2006

I think the "Finishers 2006" is a great idea. My problem is not that I don't
finish projects, as I only have one UFO for the four years I have been
quilting, but rather that I have done so many projects in the past two years
I am burned out. What I need is a "not-started 2006" to prevent more burn
out. Am I the only one who does this?

I already belong to the other group so I won't be joing this one. For me,
it's redundant.

but is it still up and running then? - if so why isn't the host/moderator of
the group telling us? or maybe nobody new is welcome?

Trixie:
Well, I am NOT at all like you; I DO have UFO ... too many! BUT,
that doesn't stop me from making a suggestion!! PErhaps you might
challenge yourself to make something really really
different/large/difficult ... perhaps this is the year when you
make just ONE quilt, but make it your most ambitious work to
date. WHAT? A king size lone star, hand quilted; a Baltimore
Album; a Dear Jane, hand pieced; an elaborate hand dyed quilt
with ornate machine quilting. Just an idea!

For 2006? The only person I've heard mention a finishers group at all
was Kate and that was for last year.

Don't mean to be stepping on toes,
