Hi everyone! I'm posting this before we dash off for a weekend in Santa Fe
and Taos. (It's allegedly 10-15 degrees cooler and that's a big plus!)

Yesterday I had Lasik eye surgery done. I am SO amazed! I've wanted to do it
for years but was chicken and overly cautious. This spring I've had a bunch
of problems wearing my contacts because of the dryness out here and some
allergy flares. My doc finally said "yanno, you're a perfect candidate for
Lasik, think about it!" So I did, and I did! G My undying gratitude to my
Mom, who gave this to me as a birthday gift.

I've been VERY nearsighted for years (the big E on the eye chart is a big
blur) plus a mild astigmatism. As of this morning's follow-up I'm 20/20 with
no astigmatism! I have some fuzziness and haloing around bright lights but
he assures me that will resolve within the next few weeks. I can certainly
see clearly enough to drive! The only bummer (which I knew but still hoped
would be wrong) is that I still need reading glasses. Oh well, can't win 'em
all! G

The procedure was fast, painless and only a little bit weird. One cool
moment was when they did the initial corneal flap, the machine pushes hard
enough for you to see your own personal galaxy while you're being
immobilized. Between that and the Valium it was almost sort of fun. G

Anyone who's dithering about it, I urge you to save your pennies and go for
it! I'm sorry I didn't do it years ago.

Off to the cooler climes of New Mexico for the weekend. Maybe I'll even find
some beads!

If i can ever get off my butt and sell some of my craft stuff, that's what i'm gonna
be saving for. Not to say that I'm lazy, but I've not been too productive, between
going to school, homeschooling, caring for a sick animal, etc. Well, y'all know how
life gets in the way. I'm determined, though, that this coming semester (since I'm
taking a break to save money) I'm going to do my darndest to save for the things i
really want to do, and make a bunch of stuff, and sell it. I wanna be free of having
to wear glasses (don't need em for reading yet) and contacts, and be able to wake up
and look into my precious dh's eyes without having too put on these horrid plastic
and metal things. Way to go! Have a good trip!

As my eyes get older, I wonder more and more about this. I'm 53, and I have
been losing my nearest vision for a couple years (less than 15" blurs now).
And yet I still have ...what, 40 years left with these eyes. Would the
laser correction make this problem worse? It seems logical that it would.
I'm not willing to take advantage of this surgery until I know what happens
to older eyes. After all, we're "older" for a very long portion of our
lives.

Congrats, Karen!! I've been much too chicken to consider it for myself!
