Default Fabric covered buttons and beltbuckles - how to ?

Hi, I was recently given a box with some very old tools for making fabric
covered buttons and beltbuckles. There are two types of buttons - one is
just a shell and a bottom with a shank and I've figured out how to cover
these. The other type is with a metal ring and only the middle is supposed
to be covered - at least I guess they are. This type and the beltbuckles are
a complete puzzle. How do I do this ?? Can anyone point me to some kind of
instruction ?? I really appreciate any help I can get.

TIA
Elsebeth

Elsebeth,
I have covered buckles where there was a sticky back template to fit
the buckle. In other words, you would peel off a release paper and
stick the template to your fabric and cut it out. Then you would peel
off the next release paper and stick that to the metal and fold in all
the clipped corners and then snap on a back. You might be able to
'wing-it' with a few trial runs. The button with the metal ring
actually has a special setter. The only one I have seen was a large
metal hand press, (commercial and quite expensive) and used special
forms. I think it was called a Handy Press-guessing at that though.

You might call Tender Buttons or one of the other button shops in New
York for pointers.

Tender Buttons is at 212-758-7004.

Sorry, got caught up in some serious absolutely not button-related
business - so I never got around to say thank u for your suggestions.
But now I will go and try your advise.

Thank you for your kindness,
