Sorry Annie , I didn't want to post this message here. I have Lupus really
bad. I was sending the message to the foundation where I belong. I hope you
are not mad. I hope you just see it as just some good competitions. MS is a
terrible disease I have many friends with it. But, I run the local support
group for Lupus and have for 14 years. The Lupus attacked my Central Nervous
System I was bed ridden for 1 1/2 years, blind, have permanent nerve damage,
had both my hips replaced, had diabetes all from Lupus. So please don't see
me as a mean person I really am not. I am just trying to get money for my
disease like you are. Still friends?

Akk! Poor you. You get a lot of sympathy for that. I thought, looking
at Annie's voting site, that it was a UK based charity thing, but |I
could be mistaken.

James's friend and classmate lost his mother to lupus last week. She
was a quiet but very busy little lady and a member of the school's
office staff. She is greatly missed.

Maybe it was naive of me -but it really never occurred to me that
someone would take advantage of my posting in this way .

But I cannot stop anyone from submitting a nomination-though as Kate
raises the issue I would check as all the charities I recognise are
definitely English ones

MSRC doesn't have organised local fundraising groups and has somewhat
become a victim of its own success -it is struggling financially
because its information service and 24 hour FREE helpline are being SO
heavily used- by people from both England AND abroad -and all these
things cost money. An indication of the excellence of service it
provides is that they have recently been awarded The Investors in
People Excellence Award -for the way they carry on their business and
look after the welfare and training of their staff.

If you have posted this to a National based American foundation, then I
am afraid that size of competition is something our small but very
effective charity would have difficulty in competing with -and the
whole point of me 'biting the bullet' and being open/ honest when
asking for RCTQ's help was to help raise support -not to raise further
strong competition-as there is plenty of that already in the charites
currently in 2nd and 3rd place.

But what is done is done. I will however continue to seek support from
all RCTQers, and encourage them to ask anyone they know to support the
MSRC vote including their friends, relatives, work mates, postmen,
school crossing patrolmen, cousins 33 times removed and anyone else
they can think of!

I wish you well in your journey with Lupus- which I know is, like MS, a
journey of seldom pleasant surprises

Annie

It saddened me too. Reading the complete list of charities, almost all
are small British ones, the sort of charities which really struggle
to fund raise, and which have just a very small team of dedicated
people.

It isn't only your charity which couldn't compete with one of the
giants, none of them could, which is surely why the original 'prize'
has been offered - to help the 'little people'.

I am passing the voting site around as much as I can, though we don't
have many computers here in retirement land in deepest Suffolk! At the
mention of Web/Computer/on-line eyes glaze over!

Thanx for this Sally- we had a lovely couple of days in Suffolk last
summer and it definitely had a feel of going back in time- which was
just what we needed

Thank you for your response -it was good to hear from someone who could
understand what my concern was.

On a completely different tack -will you be going to malvern?

Annie -not so very far away from you in England

Yes, was concerned that the 'littles' would be swallowed by the
giants.

Yes, Suffolk is just about coming into the 20th Century (and this
isn't a typo!)

And yes, Malvern all booked - even got the tickets! Going on the
Saturday which is the day Pat suggested as being the best for the poor
souls who work instead of playing all day!

What a positive 'yes' day!

Annie and all that posted. I am not going to get involved in your group
Charity Competition. I am sorry, I didn't realize it was such a small group
and was from abroad. I am sorry for any hurt feelings I have caused. Like
all charities the are all looking for money for research to find a cure. I
hope you win and they find a cure for MS.
