how to piece small borders
I need to piece the next small border on the raffle quilt. The strips are
cut 1 1/4". Would you piece it diagonally or just a straight seam. / or l ? Oh I guess that didn't illustrate as well as I thought. And no matter how well I thought I was managing the seam allowances, I always! end up with some going the wrong way. This one is no exception. Poop! Someone was helping me put the pieced blocks in rows, so I was taking her pressing information. It should have been much easier than we made it. The hand quilting is going to be a bear! I think I'll stay far away from it then!!!! -- Kathyl remove "nospam" before mchsi http://community.webshots.com/user/kathylquiltz |

Kathyl:
Diagonal seams are my choice when piecing borders, regardless of size. Diagonal seams are less conspicuous. PAT KJ wrote: I need to piece the next small border on the raffle quilt. Most quilt teachers in this area tell their students they must always piece
those borders diagonally because it will show less. Unfortunately, they don't show the students how to do a mitered border that lays flat, so the seam shows more because it puffs up. I'd say do whatever you are more comfortable with. You'll do a better job just because you aren't stressed. -- Kathy A. I would piece it diagonally, Kathyl; and also press the seam open - far
less of a bump. To get them going the right way - I have to speak out loud to myself!! Describing which bit goes on which, and then comparing it with the one before - I pin them all, and draw the diagonal line, before I cut and sew anything g ..
