I'm toward the end of a piecing project. Am I the only one who dreads
wrestling those last couple seams and pinning the intersections? I have part of it pinned and needed to walk away for a few minutes. I have to do this in stages or I get impatient and sloppy. Since I usually don't pin when I sew, I guess it's the pinning of those long seams that are my undoing. I'll try to get a picture of this on my site when I'm done. It will still need the last applique borders, but this is a really cool quilt. It is for our guild's quilt show raffle next summer. If you have the book, "Pink Lemonade" by Linda Johnson, it's the cover quilt. |

Yup, that's the one! I googled it earlier in the process and didn't see
this. I wonder if it would have changed our minds about selecting this one. hummmm. It's a really neat quilt. Ours is appears to be pinker than theirs. Oh well. Today I'm sewing the blocks on to the center square. Which will make the top about half done. Next step will be to lay out the border design. I'm learning a lot! Ahhh aren't you nice!? It won't be until sometime next Spring. I think our
gambling license is for 3 months, and our quilt show will be in June. We are thinking about possibly entering it in the group quilt category in Paducah. Just for kicks and giggles. All they can do is not accept it....no harm done, huh? My "Kaleidoscope Monster" quilt took longer than it needed to because it would take me a while to work up the fortitude to pin the long seams. As for the long seams, if you use a different technique, you can end up with only *one* long seam. It's the Twosie-Foursie technique Mary Ellen Hopkins came up with. Instead of putting rows together, you put pairs of blocks together (twosies). Then put two pairs together to form a square (foursies). Now sew the foursies together side by side (eightsies) and then put two eightsies together in a square of 16. Keep going like that, and you'll eventually have everything sewn together except one long seam near the center. That's usually how I do my quilts with blocks Sandy. I didn't realize
anyone taught this....I just figured it out myself. I also sew sashings on the to sides and tops of the blocks rather than sewing as a row like some directions instruct. But this one was a little different with the center square. There were only two long seams, so it wasn't too bad. Now I'm wishing one of you were here to help me measure for my next border. I'm itching to get this ready for the last big border. Maybe I'll just get my paper pattern drawn out for the borders...keeping those symmetrical will be lots of fun! -- Kathyl remove "nospam" before mchsi http://community.webshots.com/user/kathylquiltz "Sandy Foster" wrote in message ... That is what I was thinking ('Is there another way?'). No reason to sew
more than one long seam if it can be avoided! especially if you have to match corners! ) KJ wrote: That's usually how I do my quilts with blocks Sandy.
