OT - My State Is So Boring...
How boring is it?
Nine times out of ten, the top story on the local news is about the weather. Bad weather or good weather, it makes no difference. On the local TV magazine program, they're doing a series on -- get this -- large rocks. I think it's the second anniversary of the fall of the Old Man of the Mountain, a famous rock formation and tourist attraction. Some blame the loss of the OMotM for a decline in tourism in NH. I suppose this series is meant to drum up interest... We'll be here all week. ::rimshot:: Arondelle -- "Supermodels. Hah! Come up to Maine.... we've got you beat in the boredom dept. any day. (Though, I gotta say I don't care--I wouldn't have it any other way, 'cos the best adventures & stories always come from creatively trying to relieve boredom, no matter the locale!) PS--what area of NH are you in? I'll be back next week. -- m3rma1d -- www.creativespill.com To reply in email, remove my panties. |

heh..kentucky is pretty damned boring, too.
I remember once, the biggest story on the news was about how a cop tripped and fell off of a porch. Right now everyone is carrying on about the derby. the news shows and the newspapers have lengthy features on derby hats. Have you guys ever seen a derby hat? They either look like a dead bird that flew into a bucket of paint, or like you have the whole garden section of wal-mart perched atop your head. very frightening. Most involve huge swaths of netting (probably useful for keeping away the bees that try to land on the mass of fake flowers). -Amber. |

Hi, Amber,
I'm coming down to Louisville for the Gathering (ISGB) in July. Kentucky can't be any more boring than New Jersey is. I swear, if it gets any more crowded, we won't have any room left. I can figure out why it is everyone wants to move here when there's almost nothing interesting to do. But, then we are very close to NYC and its fabulous bead district!! Patti www.pattiwhiteley.com |

But I'll be right nearby in Manchester. But Small world alert, the BF wants to go to Milford! Apparently y'got a drive-in there. Anyways, if y'wanna hang sometime next week, I'll be there (Manch-Vegas) Wed. until... I dunno. Friday, maybe thru the weekend, maybe longer. Just email me for my cel numbuh. And if you don't wanna, tell me to get bent! :-D Oh, but, before I get bent... can you tell me about any other bead/jewelry supply shops besides The Bead(ahem)DOOM & Castleander Beads that are kinda in the area? (By "area".... anything within like... an hour-ish drive?) I know there's 3 in Salem, but man that place is (no offense to anyone happening upon this) sorta skeevy, so I kinda wondered if they'd be worth checking out... Maybe you know if they suck/rock? Or if I should pass on them and check out _*insert other place here*_? Googling has turned up alotta places that are looking perhaps outta business or had no webpage to investigate, etc. Anyhoo....I'll shut up now, thanks in advance for any info you might pass me! (I feel like such a space cadet) :-p --m3rma1d -- www.creativespill.com To reply in email, remove my panties. |

Yeah, there's a drive-in in Milford, but I don't know if they're open for the season yet. I rarely go to the movies as it is, and avoid drive-ins. :-) As for bead shops, I don't know of any others outside of the ones you mentioned unless you want to drive all the way to Keene. I've never been there myself, so I couldn't tell you anything about it. If you're interested in semi-precious stones, however, the Quartz Source (AKA Medlyn Monuments, a headstone manufacturer and lapidary shop) has a small selection of beads, pearls, chip strands, and tumbled stones at reasonable prices in addition to specimen pieces, seashells, fossils and finished jewelry. They're right on the main drag in Milford, too. The folks there are a hoot. (Open 10a to 5p. If the "Open" light's on and no one seems to be in the shop, ring the doorbell.) Stop in and buy a rock -- that's what New Hamster is famous for. ;-D Arondelle -- "Supermodels. Hah! Patti www.pattiwhiteley.com yeah..louisville at least isn't quite so crowded. it's certainly growing, though. there are a lot more people here than there used to be. I live in a little rural area that's just outside the city, and it's still quiet and isolated, which I actually don't mind. I'm a florida to kentucky transplant, and the quietness is something I've come to enjoy. I just wish we had more bead stores here. there are only two that I know of, neither of which are close enough for me to really go to. All of my bead shopping is done online, or whenever a bead show comes to town. -Amber. |

I've never been there myself, so I couldn't tell you anything about it. I've always wanted to go to Keene, only really 'cos my last name is Keene :-p But I have seen ads for this one really big place there.... Is that where you mean (that you haven't gone?) I wonder if it's good. I should just plead with the sweetie to take me there. If nothing else, it's KEENE! I'm sure there's a stupid photo-op or two there for him to giggle over while making me pose by signs and stuff. :-D If you're interested in semi-precious stones, however, the Quartz Source (AKA Medlyn Monuments, a headstone manufacturer and lapidary shop) has a small selection of beads, pearls, chip strands, and tumbled stones at reasonable prices in addition to specimen pieces, seashells, fossils and finished jewelry. The website for the bead store in Keene is www.nebeads.com . They have
gotten bigger over the last couple years. I never get there and it's too bad. -Ellen |
