I know this is very off topic, but, my husband is (very sadly) going to
part with his H.O. train collection.

He asked me if I would help him list it on FreeCycle.

I asked him if I could offer it here first, as I seem to recall a
couple of ladies with husbands who are train fans as well.

SOOooooo - if any of you ladies out there, who have husbands with a
love of HO trains and would like to give your hubby a little something
extra for Christmas, please feel free to email me off list.

We have a ton, TON of cars, locomotives, landscape stuff, little
motors, track, etc. etc. etc. Not to mention, four - plywood sheet
sized layouts, currently connected to each other - but then, that would
be kinda hard to ship cross country............

Gee, Tina, with such a huge collections, you might want to try eBay
before you just give it all away? What a kind, generous offer it is to
give it to friends, tho. You and your family are the bestest!

My thought exactly! I would guess ebay would be a good way to disperse
them. If you don't want to sell them yourself, there are businesses opening
all over the country that will take care of the auction for you and take a
percentage of the sale as payment. I bet there's someplace in Houston doing
it!

Leslie and KJ - thanks for the wonderful suggestion - but this train
set/collection, is DH's love. It would be like "selling" part of his
soul and he just can't do that. He wants to find them a "good home",
someone who will love and appreciate them - and it appears that by
simply posting here, we have had a success that he is very happy with.

It seems that Ms. Butterfly and Mr. Joe, have found a hobby they enjoy
together, and that is something my DH has always wanted the train set
to be. I think there will be much happiness enjoyed from this
exchange, on both ends. Makes for a very happy holiday for us!

Hugs and gratitude,
Tina

We are quite excited as there wasn't going to be 'any additions' to the
train set-up this year. Mr. Joe has been setting up our train right now--so
he was quite surprised and very interested in the offer : ) He bought me the
'initial' set-up 21 years ago and I can still see 'us' setting it up in my
minds on--on an ottoman. Only place that we had that wasn't constantly in
use : ) I was just so pleased with it.
I had always wanted a train from when I was little. My older sis had gotten
a tin Engine one for Christmas one year (I was too little to have one, but I
sure do remember hers). She cut her finger on it and Dad said: No more.
We lived a good mile from the train tracks and when we heard its whistle in
town (about 3 miles away) we all would run out to where we could see it
cross the main highway. We had fun speculating what it was carrying and how
far it was going. I do remember seeing a load of Christmas trees on it one
year (we were in town at the time, so we did get to 'see') The train tracks
are no longer there.
I just can't wait to tell the Kidlets : )

Butterfly (did I say we were excited)

Well now, Ms. Butterfly & Mr. Joe, if you find any duplicates (twins? LOL)
or triplicates that you'd like to find a good home for, DH & the boys (soon
to be 10!)would also love to give them a warm safe home up here in
Washington!! Now that we actually have ROOM for their trains!!!

Rehoming things to where they will be loved and appreciated is always
better than just giving them away.

Congratulations Butterfly and Joe! Which of you gets to be the Conductor?
Play nice and take turns. We just watched 'The Polar Express' last night.
Loved it! Having grown up in a RR town, Altoona, PA.,(you know, "The home
of the World Famous Horseshoe Curve"
http://www.trainweb.org/horseshoecur...rack_on_HC.jpg )
, where everyone worked in the shops, it was really evocative. I remember
walking over the 12 St. footbridge that went over the tracks at the
shopyards to the downtown area to do Christmas shopping after school. If
you stood on the bridge while a train went underneath, it was quite
thrilling. (and back in the day, very steamy and sooty!) If you were lucky,
you would be able to count cars clacking by until you finished the fresh
donut from the bakery at the foot of the bridge and your feet were too cold
to stand and count anymore. (Never inhale while biting into a powdered,
cream filled donut!!)
My Gfather was a foreman at the shops and had a large trainset under his
tree. Tree, tracks and scenery all went up on Christmas eve, and according
to my Dad, there was much bahhumbugging over the course of the night, but
the scene in the morning was magic! I was especially fascinated with the
smoke that came puffing out of the stack.
I built a tiny N scale scene with DS when he was little. We had a lot of
fun with it.
Enjoy the new additions!
