moebius?
Just a thought, came to me when someone asked a question about circular
knitting -- If you work on a circular needle and DELIBERATELY twist before joining -- wouldn't this create a moebius? Thanks, Karen in MN |

Nope. If you put one complete twist in hte cast on prior to joining
you get a 360 twist, not a 180. IIRC, Elizabeth (or possibly Maggie) worked out that you CAN make a moebius in the round - join as for plain circular knitting and on the SECOND round put in half a twist - ie, as you come around to the first stitch of the round, knit into the cast-on edge. Or maybe that's for fixing an unintentional twist? Our expert on the knitted moebious is Ria , i have `some` expertise on
the Crocheted moebious . A twist alone is not enough , stiches should be cast on ,, so that in the middle of the moebious there are stiches FACING eachother ,, and when you later knit or crochet you enlarge it out from the middle mirjam |

I just followed the directions even though it didn't make sense, and it eventually worked. Ooooow! That looks really neat, I think I'll give it a go in the next few weeks. |

I've made it and it really is a surreal experience. I just followed the directions even though it didn't make sense, and it eventually worked. I used a similar pattern that was in Spin Off magazine Fall 2002 page 54, It is indeed amazing how well it works out. You cast on the stitches by putting half hitches on your needle when you have the amound needed. Now quoted for the magazine verbatum....:"after you finish casting on, hold both the last stitch you cast on and the yarn at the tip of the left needle, then work back, using the tip of the right needle to pick up a second set of stitches along the bottom of the cast-on row. Pick up the first stitch by purling. After that you can pick up the remaining stitches by knitting or purling. According to your pattern. As you proceed the circular needle willgradually double around on itself. When you have picked up al the way around, the two points of the neddle will face each other." When I did it it was easy to do and it did create the cicle with a half a twist in it. Els -- hate spam not welcome |
