Default How much fabric to buy for twin size

My LQS is having a 40% sale early early Saturday morning (7-9am only) and I
hope to get there to purchase some fabric.

I made a Drunkard's Path table runner last year and DH really liked the
pattern. So I thought I would make him a quilt. Actually myself one as
well.....twin sizes, one for his side of the bed, one for my side.

So.........how much material will I need to make a twin size quilt,
probably will add a bit extra length. Using 4" or 5" block? I did a google
search and couldn't find yardages.

Approximates are OK...........Would 1 yard of dark and 1 yard of light be
enough?

Get 4 yards of each fabric. No, 10, no... better get bolts.

Seriously, here's a site that may help:
http://www.quilterscache.com/StartQu...iltingtwo.html

But still, get more.

I checked out Mary's link to the fab calculator. Thanks!! Didn't know where
I put the link that I had saved LOL
Still don't know the size of block I will make as I"m still thinking on that
one. Calculated the yardage and it's anywhere from 1 - 1.5 yards. I
planned on getting extra but I still needed a starting point on how much I
would actually need.

desire, now that it knows.

Here's advice from a person who never calculates yardage and never buys all
the fabric at once for a specific project. IOW, YMMD! But consider that a
twin size quilt is going to be about 2½ yards long and maybe 1½ yards wide.
So you're going to need AT LEAST that much fabric. And that isn't counting
seam allowances, which will increase your needs by 10-20%. And for curved
blocks like DP, there's a certain amount of waste when you cut: add another
10%. Then there's "golly, what was I thinking?" when you realize that the
entire design will click into symmetry if you make another whole row or 2 of
blocks. Or you find out it just has to have an extra little inner border. Or
(horrors) you stayed up half the night cutting and found the next morning
that half the pieces were too small.
So just buy twice as much as your wildest estimate, and it might be enough.

No, though I could wish for that, all its given me is a reputation as an
enabler, tho I prefer to think of myself as a dream nurturer.
