I love tinkering with other people's quilts so much that I don't often
post like this so listen carefully: I suggest that you go have yourself
a nice cup of tea, leave the quilt alone for a few days, take a nice hot
bath and a nap. There is nothing wrong with that quilt. The greens are
NOT all wrong. Nothing is off, and nothing is jumping out. The first
layout is fine and exactly what you want. If you desperately want the
blues to be the main color, then go buy some DIFFERENT blues because the
extra blues in layout #2 makes it look like the greens and browns are a
mistake. Really, the quilt is lovely the way it is. Leave well enough
alone. (Now I'm off to read what others have written.)

I've posted a few pictures of the quilt I am working on.....log cabin
florentine pattern. It's just "ok" The greens are all wrong I believe.
The browns block I can live with but even they are just a bit "off" It
seems to me that the green becomes the colour that jumps out at you and it
is the blues that I want to be the main colour.

So what do you suggest? Get rid of the green blocks? What colour in place
of the greens? I really really need some suggestions please.

I *like* layout 2 - especially the way the blue blocks make a diamond
pattern across the whole quilt - that diagonal really draws your eye to
the blue, but the brown and green provide a good contrast.

Hi Ann,

You're right, it look 'off'. Pack up those blocks and send them to me.

Actually, it's just fine. I like quilt pattern number 1. If you concentrate
on the green...you will see the green, but try the same for the other
colours...if you think Blue, then you will see the blue. They are all
strong and very nice colours. I would try to give it a blue border like
someone else suggested (sorry I must have deleted the post by acccident..i
forget your name) and give it MORE blue in that method, but I dont like the
2nd pattern either.

Thats my opinion. Nice blocks. I'll try that one soon.

Thanks and good luck.

Christina

Thanks Patti.
I have my borders decided. I need to add the lightest blue (triangles) to
square the quilt off since the blocks are placed diamond shaped. Then it's
a 2" border of the light blue. As for the second border, it will be one of
the 2 darkest blues. and I'll decide when I get that far.

Hullo Ann
I had a first look; then I came back to read what others had said; then
I had another look.
My first thought was that the green did not overpower the blues - there
are, after all, many more of them. I took Ragmop's point about a more
equal distribution of the colour values, and that might make you feel
differently about it. But, in the end, I still like it very much as it
is; and, if it were my quilt - which it *isn't*! - I would leave it.
Have you tried anything in the way of a border yet? Had you something
in mind? The addition of the right border often makes a significant
difference to a quilt. Perhaps a blue border would emphasise the blues?
However, I am no expert on borders, so I would rather leave any opinion
on its colour to those who know better. But, do consider the border,
before you do anything rash.

Thanks Lia. I've been doing just that, leaving my quilt laid out and
looking at it, straightening the blocks, moving them around. Due to my busy
schedule in the next couple of weeks I will have no time to quilt (or sew).
Which is probably a good thing, as when I sew the top I want to get it right
the first time )

Ann..........who will keep playng with her layout until it tells her to stop

Hi Ann:

I don't know about you, but I really like the quilt. If you decide
you don't want it, I'd be happy to provide a good home for it!

I like all your colors but they do all vie for attention equally. How

about
placing a blue block between each green and each brown--would that make

the
blue stand out more? Try that and post another pic.

I really like all of the colors, I especially like the blues with the
browns, and the greens with the blues, and the greens with the browns. But
I do see what you mean, it's just toooo . . . hmmm, balanced, I think. If
you want the blues to predominate, I think maybe you need twice as many blue
blocks as you have of the browns and the greens.

After reading all the comments today, the many of you think the quilt top
looks good just the way it is.
Perhaps it does and I'm just being overly critical. In some things I tend
to expect perfection and I thought it was good enough when I picked the
colours. I'll ask my DS #1 and #2 opinion when they come home next weekend
and see what they think
