This is the situation. We are moving. Now is the time to get rid of all
that stuff that one puts at the back of the closet, in the basement, in the
attic, etc. Well, I'm looking at four sewing machines. I'll be keeping the
Viking and my Grandmother's treadle.

I've found a place that will tear down and dispose of the other two (old
portable Singers). My question is does anyone know of a charitable
situation that would be interested in them. I'd hate to toss them and find
out later that they could have been useful.

If you have a FAQ that answers this, point me at it. BTW, I'm in Minnesota,
the TC area, if that is a help.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Pam

Our local senior citizens centers do a lot of sewing and quilting, and
would be grateful for any supplies, including machines, to help them.
You might want to check in your area...

Call your local Women's Center or Christian Assistance Ministries to see if
they give you a tax write-off, I know Salivation Army does.

Phone your local church (or Salvation Army). I know that the ladies at our
local Lutheran church make quilts for overseas relief out of scraps of
fabric and old clothes, etc.. They are always looking for donations of
machines and fabric. The Catholic Ladies group in town used to do something
similar, but I don't know if they still do...

What about a local high school marching band or Drum Corps? They are
always repairing flags and uniforms. I do that for all the bands and
Drum Corps my kids have been with. I have my own machine, but there are
others that have to send it to a tailor to do and pay for the repairs.
