Update from Afghans for Afghans

I just received this last night and thought maybe some of you might have
a little extra yarn and/or time on your hands to whip up a hat or
mittens to send to Afghanistan. If you can get something to Afghans for
Afghans by Oct. 24th, you will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift
certificate to Elann.com! :-)

We just extended our current due dates to November 7 in the U.S. and
October 24 for Canada (via elann.com in BC).

We wanted to squeeze in as much time as possible to send more hand-knit
and crochet blankets, hats, mittens, socks, sweaters, and vests -- and
still make it on to shipping containers in time to reach Afghanistan for
most of the coldest winter months. This will be our last collection
until 2004.

If you can whip up a quick garment or maybe get together with a couple
friends to complete a group afghan in the next couple weeks, your
generosity and talent will have tremendous impact on Afghan women, men,
and children. Even a single brightly colored warm hat will make a big
difference.

And, please continue to spread the word to your local yarn shops and
friends who may not be familiar with the afghans for Afghans project.
Your referrals help to grow our efforts, and we count on that. (The PDF

your convenience.)

For those who were going to splurge on faster mail service, with this
extra time, you can now save a little money by using the slower U.S.
Parcel Post, Fed Ex Ground, or UPS and still make the new due date.

Many thanks to those who have already mailed in beautiful handmade
afghans and garments for this collection. We've been sorting and
packing, and your gifts are as lovely as ever. Thank you for continuing
to remember the Afghan people.
