Dyeing with Echium (bugloss)

I'd like to try some dying with Echium vulgare (viper's bugloss)
roots. This is NOT Anchus officinalis, dyer's bugloss, but it was used
here in Quebec in days past to dye wool red.

Does anyone have any information on mordants for this dyestuff?

I have never dyed with that plant, however I would think that mordanting
is more or less standard for all natural dyeing. A good book to look at
for mordanting recipies is Indigo Madder and Marigold. by Trudy van
Stralen. Found in a public library. A Dyers Garden by Rita Buchanan is
another one. Most likely you can also find recipies on the internet.
