New computer and I'm back
Hello everyone, I had a computer crash and was stubborn in my belief
that I could save a 7 year old computer. Seems like they should last longer than that. Anyway, I finally gave up and bought a new one so I'm back minus all my quilting links :-(. But I'm looking forward to rebuilding the list. Been busy working a paperpieced Double Wedding Ring quilt. I have discovered the hard way that I don't really like paper piecing!! Oh well, once I"m done with this quilt I just won't paper piece again!! Anyway, good thoughts to all who have requested them recently, happy dance for everyone who has finished a quilt or a project and as soon as I'm done with the damn red quilt (the wedding ring) I'll post pictures. An update on the new QI, Dozer the white cat. He had a wrestling match with an open can of red fruit punch. Now we call him Pinkie!! It stained his fur and even a bath in the sink didn't wash it all out. Karen aka Queen of the Sky |

Hi, I built my last computer with the help of CompUSA. I really did not
want another name brand PC. They usually use proprietary hardware, made especially to fit their cases. If you want to upgrade a motherboard or other parts you can only use theirs (Dell, Gateway too). My new one is a generic box with all the parts of my own choice. I built a killer PC with a TV tuner in it and when I need a faster processor I will be able to do that for less money than a whole new system. They put it all together for me and installed and set up my wireless network for no extra cost. Flat screen LCD and computer was $1000. Just an option to think about. Linda |

Rhoda,
I bought the least expensive one I could fine which in my case was Dell because I had a coupon from someone at work. My son who is a computer wiz., told me he could build one that would be faster and larger for around $750.00, someone posted that they built one with the help of compusa, I would look into that if your not in a big hurry. But for what its worth, my household now has a Dell, a Gateway and a HP, all which do the trick, and all were bought based on price. Sorry if I'm not much help, but I think they are all comparable, and price was my deciding factor. OH, and the kitten is no longer pink! Thanks to the siamese, he held him down and gave him a good bath. :-) Karen aka queen of the sky (R.E. Wicker) wrote in message ... Dear Karen, I am going shopping for a new computer and wonder if you can recommend one brand over another. I am thinking of getting an HP with Windows xp I hope I have those letter right. I cashed in a CD deciding I need some good years more than my children need what is really my late mother's money. Good Decision, RIGHT? Rhoda still waiting to get stronge enough to cut out those Autumn Leaves. Fighting Benign Positional Vertigo right now. Threw up all the way home (35ms) after the last treatment. Having another treatment tomorrow have to remember not to eat. . I've always had IBM and have never had any problems. IBM still sells PCs
online and when I shopped for a computer, their prices seemed competitive with Gateway & Dell. The one I have now is, I think, a ThinkCenter A50 desktop which is listed at $599 without a monitor. I have the 15" flat panel monitor. I have upgraded previous computers by adding memory and extra hard drive without any problems. Last fall my monitor was going out, so I started shopping for a new computer; I was frustrated with stores that tried to sell me more computer than I wanted or needed. I ended up ordering IBM online. http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/st...et=inli&re=hho I hope this doesn't sound too much like advertising. I am an IBM retiree, but also a satisfied customer. Julia my first computer was an IBM PC Jr. No internal memory and used the
big floppies. All the programs were on either cartridge or big Floppy. We wrote easy programs to get lottery numbers and did word processing. About 6 months after we bought it, it was discontinued by IBM. My DH has a ThinkPad from work. He really likes it. Linda in Plano |

I have never had any problems with any of them, other than the monitor failing on the last Aptiva, but it was at least 5 yrs old. I started with IBM because we got some great employee discounts on the earlier ones. We still get a bit of a price break, but nothing great.
