Using two spools of thread
There are some tulips and leaves dancing across the quilt in progress. They
called for a buttonhole / blanket / appliqué stitch around the edges. Swell. Do you have any idea how many points a @#$! tulip has and how hard it is to pivot all those points? Naturally, I decided that the embroidery would look better with two threads. The new Bernina only has one spindle for holding a thread spool vertically. Aha. The old brain sifts through all I've read. I put a plastic drinking straw over the spindle. The two spools stacked quite nicely on the straw - and the thread feeds off very smoothly. Tell yourself to remember this. One day you'll need it when you have tulips talking to you. Polly |

Polly What a clever idea, Polly! I *will* remember that one, though I do have two vertical spool holders (no horizontal ones, though) on my Bernina. I hope the tulips aren't for your DH's too-large quilt; I'd be tempted to dance them right around his neck. ;S -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las Vegas my ISP is earthlink.net -- put sfoster1(at) in front http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1 AKA Dame Sandy, Minister of Education |

Polly What a wonderful Idea! I WILL remember this. OK, question: if the spool is wound crosswise (as in the embroidery thread) it will feet better off the spool if the spindle is vertical, right? And regular old sewing thread feeds better if the spindle is horizontal. Is that about it? Cindy |

I don't speak horizontal. Just haven't taken the time to investigate.
These spools look / act just like plain old spools of sewing thread. I have been millions of miles with twin-needle stitching and knew that I didn't want them to wrap around each other or feed off at different tensions. I'll report back one day if I ever slow down long enough to conduct high (or low) level tests. Polly "teleflora" wrote What a wonderful Idea! I WILL remember this. What a great idea!
I had a look at the Pfaff instruction book on an unrelated topic and happened to flip through some of the pages on embroidery. There was a picture of a fancy stitch border done with a double needle and 2 thread colors -looked very interesting. The Pfaff BTW has a taper function for making perfect appliqué pointy bits. Haven't tried it yet myself though. Roberta in D "Polly Esther" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ink.net... There are some tulips and leaves dancing across the quilt in progress.
