It is a good thing i started the ball from within , one had all kinds
of little parts knotted together ,,,, i went to shop and changed it
for a new ball ,,
It really is a wonderful feeling to knit i decided to make a shawl , [
yes as a present] ,,,, i lately make shawls etc,, for colleagues and
friends , i can make it while traveling [ Sunday i travel to
Jerushalayim] for a convention ,,, thus 2 hours one way 2 hours back
,,,, yeah loads of knitting ,,,,,,
Anyway i finnally decided to knit it on 5 mm although it says 3.5 ,
in which it came STIFF to my taste,

Wanted size [ i asked is 40 X 150 , decided to start the 2 end parts
at same time ,,,, thus i work on circular needle with 2 balls , this
will allow me to make 2 interesting lace like ends,,,,
mirjam

Thank you ladies i played with it yesterday ,,, crocheting wasn`t too
great [ it was a bit sloppy, But knitting it it flowed in my hands i
tried several patterns ,, with the lacy one icould use easily biggeer
needle than recommended [ label said 3.5 mm, i tried 5 for plain
knittting got 2 stiches per cm , and than tried no 6 for lacy pattern
looked and felt fine , but i haven`t measured it`s guague ,,,

My thread shop lady showed me a Bamboo thread ,,,, i bought 1 ball to
tryt it all ,, it seems better for knitting than for crocheting ,,,,,
anyone tried it ? any comments ? will it do well for bags ? summer
shirts ???? how is the `fall ` of the material ?
mirjam

I bought some, but have not yet had time to use it. I plan to knit
socks
with it. They told me at the yarn store that it knits up very nicely.

Mirjam,
I have enough Bamboo in my stash for two sweaters, and would like some
information from you before choosing a pattern. What is the hand of the
knitted fabric compared to cotton or linen? I will probably use a gauge of
4.5 or 5 stitches to the inch. Would the fabric have enough drape for this
pattern http://www.whiteliesdesigns.com/patt...overs/138.html , but
still block well enough to show the lace pattern?

thanks,
DA

Hallo Da,,,, back from my travel [ translated in museum today] .. i
knittef there and back , the thread is a bit lippery when working but
it is a fine slippery ,,, only when the bus swayed i `almost` lost a
stitch ,,,,
When you ask about the `hand` , [sorry it is an unknown term to me]
you mean feeling ??? i like it ,,,it is softer than cotton and less
tiring than linnen ,,, 20 stitches on no, 5 mm= 13 cm .....from the
part i knittted today ,, 2 beginings of a 40 cm square to be the 2
ends of the shawl , i can`t feel a lot of the drape , but it feels
hugging , i will tell you more tomorrow or day after when i have more
length ,,,,
i knitted 3 rows that made little 5 k 5 p and made a Hole in the
middle , than next row as comes k/p than next row made the holes both
sides of former row and again as comes than next row i make the middle
hole , this gives me a row of tiny flowers each in different
background than i haven`t decided yet .....
is 40 X 150 , decided to start the 2 end parts

Mirjam,

Thank you very much, this is just the information that I need. Please do
let
me know about the drape, of special interest to me in how much definition
you have in the lace pattern. Is the yarn so soft that the yos (holes) loose
their shape?
Thank you,
DA

You are welcome. The patterns are well written. I have knitted a couple of
the cardigans and found no mistakes.
