and then there's the original way, which some may prefer for one or another reasons.

Point your newsreader, the same program you use to read rec.crafts.jewelry, to the
group:

alt.binaries.crafts.pictures

subscribe to it, so you can read and post there.

That is an unmoderated group used specifically for posting graphic images of craft
items. It gets used for various discussions related to the images posted as well,
but there is no restriction saying this must be so. It's one of several "proper"
newsgroups to which you can post binary attachments. So if you wish to post an image
of your work to the newsgroups, rather than to a web page (which is still preferable
for several reasons, not the least of which, it's easier for readers to access),
simply send a post to that group, with your image sent as an attached file. Be
curteous and try not to make it a bigger file than needed. jpeg encoding is the
standard, rather than bitmapped, or the like. In the body of that message, so it
doesn't confuse those folks who are ONLY reading that group, describe the image and
mention that it's referenced in a post in rec.crafts.jewelry. Then, make a note of
the message ID number, which you will be able to find in the message headers of that
message, once it shows up in your news server, which will be quite quickly.
Include the message ID number in your post to rec.crafts.jewelry, as well as noting
the subject line you used in that group.

The downside to this trick is that although it's not hard for you to post the
message, readers who wish to find it, will have to bother to also subscribe to that
group in order to access the message. And they might have to do a search for the
message ID, which some news readers don't do gracefully.

Still, the option is there.
