Default Length of circular needles?

Ok, this may sound like a dumb question, but for some reason, I'm
having trouble figuring this out: I can't figure out, if a pair of
circular needles are 7 x 24 (for example), if that means it's 24
inches of nylon string between the needles or if the needles are
included in the length. All my needles are slightly different in
length, just enough so I can't figure this out. Hmmmm.

The circulars I have include both the needle and the nylon string in the
measurement. If you measure it from tip of one needle, across the nylon
and to the tip the of other needle you will have the true measurement.

Ok, thanks guys! Jeez, it's the variations that made me nutz. Trying
(FINALLY!) to do a written inventory of what I've got---hate it when I
have 2 of the same size--already found that--apparently, I keep buying
7's...gotta quit doing that.... LOL!

The length is measured tip to tip, and sometimes if they're in metric,
they won't be quite the same as inches. Even when using the same system
there's some variation between manufacturers. What matters is that the
needle length is several inches shorter than the diameter of what you knit.

Not possible to have too many needles.

I go through my wormbag every six months or so, make sure all the
needles are back int he correct zippies, update my spreadsheet, etc.
I would swear I haven't bought needles in ages, yet I always have more
of certain sizes (4mm mostly, but my collection of long tiny circs is
growing too for some reason).

I don't view duplicates as "extras" but as "more projects at once".

Apparently you use 7s a lot. That's okay, I have duplicates of all my
sizes, most of them have something on them...

Oh I feel much better now! I feel guilty if I have more than 2
projects going on at once-- I think I chalk that up to my short
attention span---If I have too many going on at once, I forget what
I'm doing somewhere and lose the "rhythm" of it-- hate it when that
happens! Ugh.

but, but, but doesn't that mean that you *use* 7s a lot and need more? yes
that's it! You need more ;-).
