Linda,
PS after my grandfather stopped smoking he started chewing on toothpicks. He was always chewing a toothpick for as long as I can remember. marisa2 Marisa2 wrote: Linda, Good for you! I have never smoked, but as far as tempting things go... one idea might be to have someone to call when you are REALLY tempted to do it, who can talk you out of it (just saying that you are feeling that way to someone might help you get through the moment?) So, you could come in here and say when you really feel tempted, especially if there is some contributing factor. Although you are happy about your new job, the first two weeks or so are bound to be tiring and stressful, for instance! If you would like someone to email or even call, let me know (and I bet there are others who would be willing too!) marisa2 Linda2 wrote: I know I said I was going to quit last year, but I wan't ready to give up my habit. This morning I took my last cigarette, broke it in half and threw it away. I am wearing a Nicotrol patch and have not had a cigarette since 8:30 am. I'm chewing sugar-free gum and trying hard to keep my mind off of having a smoke. It won't be easy. I've smoked for almost 40 years. But I can't breathe normally anymore (I'm sure the reaction to those paint fumes at my former job triggered something). Just a few steps and I'm gasping for breath. Went out this morning and kept busy, but upon re-entering my apartment, I was staggered by the reek of smoke. Emptied all ashtrays, sprayed them with orangey cleaning spray. I'll probably have to wash all my clothes and spray the furniture with some sort of freshener. I refuse to substitute food for cigarettes. I bought a lot of bottled water and will have a swig everytime I want a smoke. Ought to help wash the toxins out of my body. Also bought sugar-free gum. I'm going to do it this time. I have to. I *have* to. I can't breathe. Any supportive vibes that can be sent would be greatly appreciated. Any non-smokers who have some helpful hints on overcoming the urge, please share them with me in private e-mail. ariel at gate dot net Linda2 -- When love is your greatest weakness, you will be the strongest person in the world. --Garman Wold |

Good Luck Linda! Mike (mostly) quit February a year ago. He has "social
smokes" with friends but that's all. And I'm incredibly proud of him. He smoked for many years, with a short break. I smoked from 15 til 26 and haven't had a single ciggie since the day I quit. You CAN do it!!!!!! Hugs, KarenK "Linda2" wrote in message hlink.net... I know I said I was going to quit last year, but I wan't ready to give up my habit. I will be sending support waves with all my might. Drinking water is very
very good, keep it up. Reward yourself; put the money you would have spent on smokes in a jar and buy beads. -- Marisa (AU/NZ) http://www.galleryvittoria.com "I am NOT a floozy! I am a goddess..I can do what I like!", said Venus. 'The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen' |

Smoking the hell out of my sugar-free Twizzlers, though. Drinking at least 52 oz of water daily. Already breathing easier. I *am* a non-smoker! Linda2 |

Hi Linda -
One of the things that will help you is your new job. You'll have a new daily routine that won't have quite so many habit 'cues' as you did before. I tried quitting three times before I was finally able to do so in 1995. And what helped me immensely was having a new job and people who didn't know me a smoker. Took me four months to finally be successful, but I haven't had one since 1995 and can't imagine ever wanting another cigarette - EVER!! Congrats on Day Two!
