Power cuts
How did you folk get on during the recent huge power outages? I bet the
worst problem to those at home was not having the fans and air conditioning going! We`ve been warned to expect power/gas otages if we have a hard winter - so I`ll check on my camping gas stoves and lamps and candles I think! I`ve not been on line for a few days, as I had to reformat the `puter - no not that virus - just the mess that some Gator files left behind (I was trying to download it for my ex son in law - never again!) Pat P -- Do not worry about tomorrow`s troubles. Today has enough troubles of it`s own. |

Pat P As it happened, I was on the way to the cottage when the power failed. I arrived to find no power, and immediately worried about the frig, which was fine. I asked my neighbour, who was surprised to find she had no power either. We gradually found out how widespread the outage was. However, we were at the best place to be. Ever since the ice storm, there are *lots* of emergency generators around. Every permanent home has one "built in". At my dock, you could hear them humming away. Any electricity outage is a minor inconvenience. The next morning someone brought over a portable generator, and I plugged in my frig/freezer. My neighbour brought her food around, and stuck it in with mine. I gave her all my ice to keep the rest of her food cold. As it happened the power returned about an hour later, and I really suffered very little inconvenience at all. However, I am seriously thinking of buying the smallest size of portable generator for next year. -- Jim Cripwell. Well, first I had to walk down 48 flights of stairs in the dark to get out of my office building....then walked and hitchhiked 50+ blocks to the train station to find out the trains were not running...slept on the floor of Grand Central Station in the dark until they were able to bring a train in at 4:40 AM the next day....but at least I had plenty of great company and made several new friends, as we shared warm water, life stories and aspirin!
