Felted pullover...

I have a question of my own, and I'm not going to say 'quick'. lol

Many years ago I made a pullover with what was very expensive mohair. It
was done diagonally, in that you started horizontally, and finished
vertically, with a line across diagonally where the increasing and
decreasing took place. (I'll take a picture today and try to upload it.)

Unfortunately, this particular desing, and the heaviness of the wool, meant
that very soon it pulled out of shape, and it also shed a HUGE amount. As a
result I very seldom wore it. I think I've worn it about 5 times, 3 of
which were in my own home as I didn't want it seen. I haven't thrown it out
as it's a glorious rich shade of dark green, and I'm too stingy to throw out
something that cost money (and time). (This may explain why every home has
to be larger than the one before!)

So here comes the question: I thought of pulling it out and making
something else, but as it has already been machine washed that is not likely
to work, or should I wash it a few more times and 'felt' it, so I can cut it
up and make something else? I have never done anything like that before,
and forgive me if I used the wrong word.

Catherine throw it in the machine with your towels several times till
it settles than use as you want ,,,, add to it crochet knit whatever
you wish ..

Ho, stop, felting or fulling it is fine, but do not throw it in the
washing machine with loose towels, because they will leave your felted
project totally covered with lint, and believe me you will not get it
off. Put your sweater in a pillow case first and close it securely, now
wash it in your washing machine with some towels. Stand by the machine
and do check often so that it felts evenly.

thank you Elsje for correcting , it never oiccured to me as i have
such OLD towels , that no lint comes oof them anymore , on the
contrary sometimes part of the wools `enhance` the towels :::

I could tell you about it, because I did it wrong the first time around.
I have woven some nice woolen material in a lovely plaid, blues and a bit
of white with one yellow stripe. I made two big mistakes. One was not
putting it in a pillow case with the miseralble results of having lint all
over, and two I did not watch it, and got unevenly fulled (want you guys
to know that i am trying my best to use the correct terminology,LOL)
material. I did not use it at all, but pitched it was such a mess....LOL

Many Good Flops here turned into intersting art , i thin my mind works
one way but my heart and hands go the `proper` way and do their own
