It's on my list of things to try, and soon! I need to find a decent piece
of glass first.
I, for one, am glad you're having a dry spell with quilting. It means

more
lovely eye candy for me! hahahahahah!

Aww.. thanks Candace!
This is just what I needed. Im going thru a dry spell in quilting, as

in,
I
dont want to sew right now, and needed to get back to clay. All it takes
sometimes is finding a fun new technique and an appreciative audience.
Are you planning to give this a shot? Whats really nice is if you dont
like
how it turns out after you flatten it, you can give it a few more larger
swirls under the plastic and re-bicone the ball, then reflatten. Its
exciting... but now my hands are tired and Im almost out of mud. :-(

tougher plastic than a regular sponge. I made a very careful slit, absolutely
straight and 90 degree angle to the flat bottom. Stick a bead in there and it
closes up to hold it while you drill, and fits several sizes of the lentils.

Uh.....what? You're talking to the tool-impaired here Not to mention
space-impaired. I wish I had somewhere to set up a bench where I could
use a drill press.

I've used a pin vise after baking, but I found I needed to make lots of
extra beads, to make up for the breakage. I even tried just marking
where I wanted the holes to go with a pin before baking, then drilling
afterwards. I almost never get them (the holes) to line up, though.
I'll be drilling merrily along and get half way done. Then I'll start
from the other side, to go halfway through...and end up coming out the
side of the bead

BTW, Sarajane, I've been to your website and seen your clay work. Your
stuff is *awesome*. I love the ladies hands.

Cheers,

Ooh.. cant wait to see them! Thanks for the tip. I knew it had to be a
fairly simple reason the darn things were going unround on me.

I've been doing these too---and if you hold the tile/glass piece with two

hands
during the round-round swirling, it gives you more consistantly round

beads,
not ovals. Ovals happen when you are going farther in one direction

(minutely)
than the other.
I'm doing these lentils, baking, and then appliquing my Japanese Girl

I saw Desiree's jig on her pages, sounds like youre using a similar set up.
Id consider doing this too but for two reasons, my dremel died (after 20
years use) and I dont really want to make beads. LOL. Ok.. so these are fun,
but I'm not sanding and buffing and doing all those things that make them
look professional, as yours always do. So, Ill poke them ahead of time and
take the consequences. I do like the idea of chilling them a while tho...
How is the lampwork idea going?

Isnt that fun, cause the ones I like the most are the ones with the white in
them. Maybe because it reminds me of ice cream with butterscotch swirls? I
appreciate the comments. :-)

I like the gold ones. I have some just like them but without the white.

LOL
When I have mud I usually just mix some translucent with sparklies in it

and
they turn out pretty good.

I'm using a piece of plastic that came from a CD case. Its small enough to
fit my hands nicely, and the little edges help me hold it level.

I do the holes pre-bake too. I use a leather needle, and I go all the way
thru to the toher side, until the tip of the needle barely pokes out, then I
go in from that side, and I've not had any trouble with it--and I get nice
smooth holes.
Now, if I had a drill, I might try post bake drilling.

I hear ya, Sarajane! My computer is about seven years old. When we
first turn it on, it makes grinding noises...could be the hard drive.
Ouch! Can't afford a new computer right now...I need a job first!

My scanner *and* my printer are behaving badly, but it might be because
wires inside the computer are coming loose.

My son said that there are so many wires inside the tower, and he's
afraid to go inside for fear that he'll screw up something else. (He's
done it before, but he's reluctant to do it now.)

Oh! My digital camera batteries (both sets) are getting flaky. Either
that, or it's the charger. I don't know anyone with a digital camera
who I can ask to charge the batteries for me (as a test), so....I'm
bummed out right now.

Think I'll have a (white chocolate) Kit Kat; that should make me feel
better (temporarily)!

Cheers,
Turtlelover
